Tall boy can has great design. Pours a copper color with a loose foam with tiny intermittent fizz. Scents of candy apple and dates. Taste is sweet like a fine Spanish brandy, yeasty and malty like leavened bread. Finish is Devine, boozy and woody. Vanilla and bourbon are prominent. Definitely the most outstanding BB quad I’ve tasted, and perhaps having the best name. No wonder Tavour only allowed 2 cans per member, this is liquid gold. UPDATED: FEB 11, 2018 2017 Edition poured from can. Pours caramel color very thin quickly dissipating white head. Subtle vanilla sweetness, with strong but not too boozy. Okay and warm, but not really toasty. Very nice well balanced quad. Amazingly smooth and drinkable for something that is 11%. superspak (6488) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - DEC 14, 2014
16 ounce can into chalice; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours crystal clear deep ruby red/brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, fig, date, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted oak, bourbon, vanilla, light clove, and yeast/oak earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, dark/bready malt, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of huge caramel, raisin, fig, date, brown sugar, brown bread, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, bourbon, light clove, light coconut, and oak/toasted earthiness. Light earthy yeast/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, raisin, fig, date, brown sugar, brown bread, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, bourbon, light clove/coconut, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt, fruity/earthy yeast, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome malt/yeast/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth and fairly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged quadrupel style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity/earthy yeast, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering. 16oz can poured into a Trappist glass.
The Wizard Burial Ground pours a lovely fairly clear (if not for the shade) burgundy with a somewhat thin creamy beige head that lasts for a while. The aroma is bourbon, vanilla, oak and dark fruits. The flavor features vanilla up front followed by bourbon with oak and dark fruit in the finish. Overall this is a very nice brew. chucklemation (1825) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - JAN 17, 2016
Pours a mahogany color with no foam head. Aroma is dominated by oak, with vanilla, toffee, dark fruits, and booze providing extra character. Flavor is much different, much sweeter, with the dark fruits most dominant, along with toffee, vanilla, and very subtle hints of oak and booze. The barrel aging is just right. Sometimes breweries take it too far, but here it complements the malts and yeast just right. Delicious brew.
