sonnycheeba (6561) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 6, 2014
Tap at Churchkey. Pours deep, dark brown with fizzy tan head. Aroma is lightly roasted malts, chocolate, prunes, fig, and some earthiness. Flavor matches the nose with dry, roast malts forward, chocolate, light earthy bitterness, faint ash, and faint dark fruit esters; dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

snoworsummer (6285) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 6, 2014
Draft at Churchkey. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy beige head and nice lacing. Tastes like strong, astringent booze, pungent raisin and dried fruits. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like light bitterness, light booze.

Don’t get to try strong porters that often and this one was a bit of a letdown. It certainly hides the booze well - it doesn’t taste like a strong porter. Some roast here. Tap at Churchkey.

4 ounce draft at ChurchKey poured into a tasting snifter. Pours black with 2-3 fingers of tan head. Nice webby lacing. Aromas of cream, chocolate, floral notes. Tasting notes of dark chocolate, floral hops, caramel, roast. Full body with a dry finish. Medium-light carbonation, creamy mouthfeel.

Appearance: Black as the deepest dungeon. A nice big beige head that leaves a fine lacing.
Aroma: Coffee, chocolate and roasted dark malt.
Palate: Medium to full body. Tad sweet with an ok bitterness. Average to soft carbonation.
Taste: Lots of coffee, roasted malt, mild fruity and chocolate.
Overall impression: Soild stuff. Very pleasant and balanced.

caesar (7398) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - MAR 27, 2014
Bottled, BB 30 05 14, large sample. Hazy dark brown color, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, bit coffee, bit licorice, some fruity blackcurrant notes, dark bread. Slight oxidation, bit metallic hint. Taste is quite roasty bitter, hint of sourness from the dark malts, bit sweet. Quite high on carbonation, which depletes any creamy mouthfeel. Sparkling. Slight salty on the tongue even. Finish is quite harsh roast, again carbonation on the high side. Ok brew.

Cask. Fairly roasty nose w little sweetness, quite a nice espresso roastiness, milky, good balance of strong porter character. Has a vinous red wine character as well.

sebwaw (79) - POLAND - MAR 16, 2014
Bottle at home, served in snifter. Pours deep black (like crude oil) with moderate, a little bit brown head. Looks very encouraging. Aroma is rich, but mostly caramel, coffee, dried fruits, some toffee and roasted malts. Very pleasant, however, not too intense to be frank. Full-bodied, in the beginning seems quite sweet, but finish is definitely bitter and long. Beer is very silky and smooth with lots dark chocolate taste, I expected some sourness, but didnt find one. Soft carbonation and well-hidden alcohol makes it easier to drink. Overall, its not the top imperial porter, but being reasonably priced makes it great choice. I definitely buy another one on the occasion.
