12oz bottle. Pours nearly black with a good-sized tan head. Aroma is the best part of this beer: roast, oats, licorice, chocolate, lactose, and some grain. Taste has a ton of lactic and a good amount of chocolate, roast, and oats. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. puboflyons (3501) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 30, 2016
From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Ridiculously heady dark brown to near black pour. Big chocolate or cocoa aromas on the nose along with the grainy grittiness of rye. Low to no hop profile. The body is light to medium. A good smoky like dark malt and cocoa flavor with a clean bitter end. Overall decently balanced and worth trying once. wombat23 (1787) - Texas, USA - MAY 23, 2016
Shared 12 oz. bottle. Giant head (possibly infected?) Dark brown, almost black; opaque. Beige head. Aroma of roasted malt. Taste is roasted malt with chocolate notes. Finish is quite acidic, unfortunately. Not bad, but need to re-rate. darbeer75 (991) - Round Rock, Texas, USA - MAY 15, 2016
Aroma: like a very chocolatey stout; Appearance: infected beer with huge head that threatened to overflow; eventually dissipated; decided to taste anyway; Taste: like a porter/stout combo with odd sour taste (affected by infection?); not very good. Palate: heavy body with long, sour finish; Overall: would probably want to rerate before deciding whether to buy again. At this point, would not. Poured from bottle dark black pour with a nice thick one finger brown head. Aromas of roasted malt chocolate and coffee. Taste is slightly smoky malt balanced bitterness and sweetness. Nice.

Bottle pour into tulip glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is mild roast and chocolate with stronger lactose. Appearance is opaque black with finger-width light brown head with fair retention and nice soapy lacing. Taste is smoky, almost ashen, balance of bitter and sweet roasted/burnt malts/dark fruits similar to chocolate covered espresso beans. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture, average to lively carbonation, and lingering pleasant bitter roasted finish. Overall, gorgeous looking and more going on with taste than aroma suggests and nice palate. A winner. rjplumer (1183) - Foxboro, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 11, 2016
Smooth dark chocolate aroma. Pitch black body with a deep brown inch and a half head. Smooth dark chocolate taste. Smooth and dry mouth feel. Low bitterness. An enjoyable example of this style. Quick3Beers (1424) - East Falmouth, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 13, 2015
Pours a dark brown. Lots of unsweetened chocolate aroma and flavor. Thin, bitter, like an oatmeal stout. Good beer. nealblind (1977) - Seattle, Alabama, USA - SEP 27, 2015
Dark pour dark burnt looking creamy head a different shade of brown than I’ve seen before. Aroma cinders, oats, licorice chocolate. Thick lush mouthfeel very light carb. Tastes licorice, choco sorta mild flavored. This could accommodate another 2% of booze easy. Tonkun (1306) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 24, 2015
