COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1842 Josef Groll, the ’just hired’ brewer in Pilsen, Bohemia, brewed a light golden lager with local malt, hops from Saaz, and yeast he had clandestinely brought along from his previous employer in Munich. A new classic was born by the name of Pilsner Urquell (German for the fountainhead of Pilsen). Whoever has tried it will remember it for its golden coulur, pronounced maltiness, assertive bitterness and intense Saaz hop aroma. Our interpretation ofths beer classic is this month’s seasonal brew.

On tap, while on vacation, at the brewpub in Edmonton (south side), Alberta. Pours clear straw color with small creamy head and lacing. Aroma: faint floral, honey, biscuit, lemon. Flavor: honeywater, biscuit, white pepper, prickly hops. Mouthfeel: light-bodied, fresh tasting, crisp, clean; nice balance.

Draft - Light grainy bitterness. Clear gold with a decent white head. Nice grainy notes with a touch of sweetness and bitterness. Solid.

AgentAle (1812) - Fort Mcmurray, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 15, 2015
Aroma is clove, lemon grass, light sweet euro malts. Taste light sweet and dry malts that are balanced well with a pretty bastic bitterness. Finishes crisply and smoothly. Appearance is a yellow /orange clear body with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

Tap at Brewsters 11th av. Golden, fine carbonation. Golden cream. Fine leafy hop aromatics on a full chewy base, dry grassy, light earthy finish. Green aftertastste. Might not exactly be a Czech pils, but it is interesting what they did with saaz and sterling here.

Light golden, earthy, lots of sort of stale saaz, light body, clean...good but the saaz aren’t as fresh as they need to be...fresher hops would make this a decent pils. Not sure the vampire-Czech thing either. Vampires were Romania, right?

An enjoyable pilsner. A light golden color. Aroma is of grains and some light citrus from the hops. Flavour is quite good with light grainyness and some nice saaz hop flavours. I'm more of an ale guy myself but this is a pilsner I really enjoy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Eyrish (92) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 29, 2014
Nice deep gold colour, small creamy white head. Mild malt aroma with a tinge of caramel. Flavour is strong malts, again with a trace of caramel. Long bitter finish. Creamy body. Good but the malts seemed a little caramelized. Rerate: Whatever right? Nobody cares... Beer

On tap at Brewsters Castledowns. Clear yellow colour, nice white foam, medium retention. Aroma is pleasant, generously hopped. Mouthfeel is bubbly and crisp, medium carbonation. Taste is hint of sweet malt, dries out in the fairly smooth finish with a nice hoppy presence. Delicious.

Not sure if this is a different beer or just a different name. Just stopped in 11th for schooner Monday. First czeched the seasonals list for hops and then went back to main age for choice between this "new" favourite and Rig Pig. Vampire won. A nice crisp clean sharp hoppy easy drinking pilz.
Earlier Rating: 4/14/2006 Total Score: 3.3
Softer maltier body than typical for the style. Thin aroma Nice peppery hop body and finish. For a brewpub a nice example.
