Looks dark, tastes light. Its Ontarios favourite dark lager. A dark beer that is slowly brewed with Canadian grown malted barley, specialty coloured malts, imported hops and pure cultured brewers yeast. Dark lagers are enjoyed all year long, and theyre not as filling as ales. Waterloo Dark will cut some of the heaviness in sauce-based meat dishes. Waterloo Dark is an equally perfect beer to go with appetizers suitable for watching sports games, or used as an actual ingredient when preparing a meal. Experience what this great dark "light tasting" lager has to offer and why it has won multiple awards at the World Cup of Beer, Canadian Brewing Awards, Ontario Brewing Awards and the Monde Selection International Institute For Quality Selections.

Solid. Very solid. Surprisingly sprightly in mouthfeel. But the malt presence is always there, and abundantly flavorful.

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2014 Had tried the pilsner and kolsch by the same brewery and was heavily disappointed in both, so when I poured this I was surprised by my immediate positive response- beautiful tan head and immediate nice chocolate and fig aromas. Heavy black body and fitting thick mouthfeel. Very sessionable, heavy mouthfeel.

Transfer from BA review on 12-30-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance Pours a dark brown nearly black color with a one finger tan colored head. The head fades relatively quickly to leave a light level of lacing and a rather persistent film. Smell The aroma is heaviest of a roasted malt mixed with a lighter sweetness of caramel and some corn. Taste The taste begins of roasted malt and a sweet caramel taste. As the taste advances it seems to sweeten even further as some sweet corn malt flavors get more pronounced. The flavor takes on an almost cola like flavor with the mix of sweet corn and roast. A very light coffee flavor comes to the tongue at the end of the taste and when combined with the rest leaves a rather odd mix of sweet and roasted malt. Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the average to just below average side in terms of its creaminess with a carbonation level that was rather average. While a darker brew, which is normally nicer with a creamier body, this beer actually seemed to do better with the thinner body and higher carbonation as it matched the more soda like flavor. Overall Well it was a little too sweet and cola like in flavoring for me. Not bad if that is what you want from a beer, but not something that I personally really enjoyed.

Can. Clear dark amber-brown pour. Lightly malty aroma, some dark candied fruits and grains. Flavour is sweet and malty, some serious notes of grape juice. Light and easy, sweet, not altogether repulsive. But not what I want to drink.

Served chilled in a shaker. Hazy, dark brown body with a tan/creme head. Head was quick to dissipate, cutting off the freshly painted coffee shop aroma. Beer has a nice light body with only mild carbonation and a long, slightly bitter tail. The beers flavour is very basic - slightly bitter take on a traditional lager. Overall an average beer, good choice for party goers with a preference for dark beers that arent filling.

Pours dark brown with a plentiful tan head. Aromas are malty, grainy and a bit stale. Taste is mostly sweet malts with a somewhat sour finish. The body is quite thin and watery, with an alcoholic aftertaste. Not that good.
