Looks dark, tastes light. Its Ontarios favourite dark lager. A dark beer that is slowly brewed with Canadian grown malted barley, specialty coloured malts, imported hops and pure cultured brewers yeast. Dark lagers are enjoyed all year long, and theyre not as filling as ales. Waterloo Dark will cut some of the heaviness in sauce-based meat dishes. Waterloo Dark is an equally perfect beer to go with appetizers suitable for watching sports games, or used as an actual ingredient when preparing a meal. Experience what this great dark "light tasting" lager has to offer and why it has won multiple awards at the World Cup of Beer, Canadian Brewing Awards, Ontario Brewing Awards and the Monde Selection International Institute For Quality Selections.

Can from LCBO Appearance: Very dark brown to black with ruby highlights. Creamy light tan head which doesnt last long. Aroma: Hints of blackcurrant or cherries, faint vanilla and coffee. Low to no hop aroma. Sweet bready malt aroma. Flavour: Chocolate cake first, then fading to some fruitier flavours such as prunes, slight hop bitterness but balanced towards malt. Mouthfeel: Quite smooth, no astringency, moderate to low carbonation. Leaves a slick feeling on the tongue. Finish not overly dry, slight warmth in the aftertaste with more dried dark fruits. Overall: Not a great example of a Schwarzbier, as there wasnt much complexity. Although it may suit better with the dunkel lager style. Not bad, and inexpensive, so good for the beer drinker on a tight budget who fancies something other than DAB!!

Black in color and not too heavily carbonated. It has the look and consistency of a cola. The head is not too heavy and dissipates quickly. A hint of roasted grain. Not very strong tasting for a dark beer. No aftertaste. It lacks a certain bite to it but enjoyable if you like a light tasting beer.

A chocolate fudge brown with a light beige head. A floral perfumey chocolate aroma with a light body featuring roasted oats and fudgey chocolate. OK.

Pours dark brownish amber with a big beige head. Aroma is chocolate, malt and hops. Taste is a watered down version of the aroma. Not a bad beer, but was kinda disappointed with flavour.

Can I just say toast and caramel and park my rating here? Dark pour, large head. Easy drinking and clean, slightly bready, chestnut, caramel, toasted malt. Lighter for the style.

Tasting at Ferris, can
Dark chestnut color, clean, with small head. Lean, smooth, not too dry, with mild caramel aroma and flavor, the bitterness is a bit on the low side.
Clean, but somehow bland, like most beers in the style.

bottle @ The Andersons / Columbus OH --- Opaque brown/black color, thin ivory head cover, stripes of lace. Taste is watery caramel malt that is run over by crisp carbonation on the swallow, moving from there to light bittering to finish. Not a lot to it.
