Known as the Cyclists’ Thirst Quencher: After World War I, bicycle riding became popular in Germany. A local innkeeper opened his own watering hole and arranged for a bike trail through a forest from Munich to his Alpine meadow, only to find some 13,000 had descended upon his establishment and almost depleted his fine beer. Quick thinking led him to mix a stock of lemon soda with his remaining beer and he called it Radlermass (Radler means cyclist in German, Mass means a litre of beer), which became a wonderful refreshing summer drink.

Pours very light gold. Aroma has honey and sugary citrus. Taste is very sweet like the label (Lemonade Lager) suggests.

473mL can. Pours pale, hazy straw yellow with moderate white head. Sour lemon aroma that seems natural and some malt. Tart lemon sour taste, like a yellow lemon-aid rather than a pink, over a decent quality macro lager. Light and refreshing with a slight citrus acidy note in the throat. Overall, lemon flavour doesn’t taste fake. Better than macro lime and lemon lagers.

[4367-20120401] Can. Lemon-lime sweetened citrus pop aroma with a touch of lightly toasted grains. Slightly hazy, brown orange body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Lime-infused grainy straw flavour. Light-medium body. Not a fan. (5/4/2/3-/7) 2.1

2012-04-01. Hazy pastel golden yellow, large frothy white head fades. Sweetish aroma of lemon soda, muted grains and pale malt. Flavour is similar, sweet sugary lemon soda character up front, mild pale grainy malt. Average to light bodied palate. Not much to say about this, it does what it sets out to do, and I can see it being refreshing on a hot day but from a beer perspective its pretty mild and bland, with the lemon being the only significant flavour. Inoffensive while chilled. Can from the LCBO, Toronto

Can - unfortunately it looks quite similar to the waterloo dark so be careful...this was not what I was expecting and would not even describe it as beer. Clear, very pale yellow with an off white head. Light lemonade but sweet and artificial, although not overwhelming. High carbonation, light mouthfeel, not beer at all - an artificially flavoured mess. Now if you like that kind of thing then try it - otherwise avoid it.

I tried this beer/alcoholic concoction on July 24, 2011 after purchasing from the Queen’s Quay LCBO outlet. The beer poured a translucent medium gold with a generous white head. The aroma was all lemon, and fake lemon at that. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was very lemony with some grainy nalt mixed in. This would be quite refreshing if the taste was better.

Can [473ml]. I’m not expecting great things here but here goes: Pours a clear pale gold with an average size lasting frothy white head. Aroma of sugar and artificial lemon along with grain and pale malt. Flavor tastes like a mediocre (at best) pale lager mixed with some lemon soda, leaning more on the soda side -- could be refreshing I guess but it’s not my thing. Light bodied. Like I said, this isn’t my thing and since it’s also not on style there’s not much to recommend here.

A golden lager with a thin white head. In aroma, light lemonade. In mouth, a malty lemonade, with fake citrus juice, malt, very bad. Blahhhh!

Can: Pour is pale gold with a thin but lasting head. aroma is shandy/radler. Lemon soda and light beer. Dryish biscuity body with weak lemon flavour. Only had a few radlers, this one is ok.

JHunter (772) - British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 29, 2011
Pours a light golden colour with a medium fizzy head which leaves a nice lacing. aroma is lemonade similar to a white beer. Taste is a light lemonade sweetness and light beer. would be nice on hot day
