Bastante buena.

Aroma of tangy raisins and a little burnt caramel with a hint of something a little funky. Pours thick and sludgy from the bottle with a good amount of tan foam quickly disappearing to lacing. Tastes sweet and fruity like Christmas pudding, then quickly giving way to some red wine and tannin tartness, with a hint of warm woodiness. Mouth feel is rich and thick. This is great.

Was warned by the shop attendant at Barny’s that this one is a gusher and he wasn’t wrong. Pours dark murky cola brown with ruby and orange highlights and a huge persistent mocha head. Red wine is very obvious in the aroma, along with stewed dark fruits, caramel and some apple cider vinegar astringency too. Incredible taste - strong red wine, port wine and oak notes, muscovado sugar, prunes, caramel, hazelnut, soy and a light apple cider vinegar. The initial sweetness is nicely balanced by the light acidic astringency and dryness from the oak in the finish. Nice and full bodied. Best Aussie beer I’ve had, simple as that.

Bottle from SB. Pours very much head, when I opened it it kind of "exploded". Wery much wine in aroma, taste is complex with a lot of flavours. A good beer to just enjoy!

Bottle, batch 866b. Pour an almost opaque brown with an enormous brown head that eventually settles at finger thickness. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, bread and toffee. A bit like walking down an old vineyard cellar with dark wood and oak, through a nut storage and then a whiff of an old storage room containing old debris like nuts, smoke and some old sailing ship ropes. Which can’t be all that bad. Creamy body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet and massive with roasted malts, some earthy notes and tons of prunes, figs and dark fruits, as well as muscovado, soy sauce and dark chocolate which overall makes it a bit too sweet.

Tasted first at the brewery, then at home with some takeways. For mine Australia’s finest offering at present, and enough for me to sign up to this site and start proselytising. The profile is profound. The aromas jump from preserved red berries to wooden barrels to empty red wine bottles. Ideally consumed in a Chesterfield lounge, in slippers with a faithful retriever at your feet. But a warm Sydney spring day is still good. Flavours expand on the nose. Dry porcini and Christmas cake. Kinda the way your mouth would feel after a day in Rutherglen. Great collaboration. More please...

25 cL bottle from the Kensington Wine Market in Calgary, served In a chalice. The nose has big molasses and oak, along with toasted malts, raisins, figs, and a hint of tart fruit. The flavour is medium sweet with molasses, oak, figs and roasted malts, along with a hint of sour cherry in the finish and just a touch of salt. The finish is long and roasty with tart fruit and oak. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall a great oak-aged quad with just a hint of sour fruit. 2014-09-28
