330mL, bottled 04/14. Pours opaque dark brown with a persistent off-white head. Aromas of plums and berries, toast. Lots of hoppy and burnt bitterness and acidity and not much else, maybe some smoke, a bit too dry. Not nearly as malty as claimed by the label. Medium body, above average carbonation and a long finish. Jmar33 (210) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - AUG 15, 2014
UPDATED: JUN 19, 2015 Bottle. This was apparently the less good of all the versions (2013, the ’piney’ version). It was still pretty good, but I’d like to try the ’choc-orange’ versions.
Bottle. 2015 Version. Just as good as the 2015. ALLOVATE (3056) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 2, 2014
An impressive beer from start to finish. It produces up a midnight brown with a big, whipped cream, cappuccino foam that trails a mean lace. Nose hints at twiggy bark, mocha and bitter/sweet roasted cocoa beans, tree resin, pine needles and smoky phenols. Similar in the mouth. A lean towards strong, roasted malts over hops proves to work well. Body is medium and it lingers oh so long between sips. Smoky, chalky and woody with huge roasted coffee and bitter, dark chocolate notes. Light note of stonefruit and citrus pokes out from underneath giving it a supple juiciness. Quite dry overall with just enough sweetness for complexity. Wow, this is good. Gets better as it warms. A smashing ale. Well done! Bottled 10/4/14. Poured a very dark brown with a one- to two-finger light tan foamy head that retained well and laced well. Aroma of sweet fruity hops and chocolate malt. Taste of dark chocolate with a hint of roasted coffee with a citrus hops bitterness. Medium body. Creamy mouthfeel with coffee bitterness on the finish. Well worth trying. A lot of everything. A bit of nut, some coffee, a tad of licorice, toast and malt. But none overpowers the other. Wonderful on palate. Like a lollie bag. A great dark beer that isn't too black.

Bottle - pours black with a big off white head. Toasty malt , medicinal herb and nettles aroma and also good hint of citrus, lots going on in the aroma. Hops hit up front then the malt comes in before a nice dry bitter hop finish. Nicely balance mouthfeel. hank37 (194) - banksia grove, AUSTRALIA - JUN 21, 2014
Nutty flavours definitely come through, I dunno about wet-hopped beers, i don’t find them punchy enough?. It’s a good beer, nonetheless. varanid99 (1315) - AUSTRALIA - JUN 13, 2014
Deep brown, almost black pour with a light brown head. Malty, chocolatey, coffee aromas with a little citrus. Taste is similar, slightly sweet too, hops are more noticeable than in the aroma. Pretty damn good. wvhoran (477) - Tasmania, - JUN 3, 2014
Bottle shared with Dad. A very dark brown to black beer with a nice pillowy creamy tan head. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, dark chocolate, orange, and light coffee. Mild sweetness, grapefruit and peachy flavour, a touch resiny, grassy. Roasty finish, good bitterness. Really enjoyed this beer. Oakes (18543) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 6, 2014
Dark brown. Aroma is floral/citrusy bright hops with a decent amount of roast. Rich woody/citrus hop bitterness and toasty hop. Right in line w the style, good, balanced and flavoursome.
