COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bridge Road Brewers together with gypsy brewer Mikkel Borg Bjergs of Mikkeller created a one off brew one Friday evening of March 2012. The result is The Dark Harvest. Inspired by the timing of the collaboration, it was decided to make a dark beer, using locally grown fresh hops. Of several research hops being grown at Rostrevor Hop Garden, one variety stood out for selection and was harvested just hours before being added to this beer.

On tap at Bitter Phew, pours black with a large brown head. Aroma brings out loads of roasted malt and piney hops. Flavour is along the same lines, with a highly roasted, nearly burnt malt quality upfront, backed by tons of bitter piney hops. Nicely balanced, with a harsh finish that works. Very good.

On tap @ The Trappist. Nearly black in color with tan foam. Kind of sticky and sugary beer. Lots of roast, licorice, and maybe some tar. Theres an earthy hop character to it along with some canned peach, orange rind, and pine. A bit of an ashy, burnt flavor to the finish which at least sort of makes up for the sweetness by providing a strong bitter character. Not sure what I expected, but wasnt a huge fan.

Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours near black with a massive tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a smooth dark molasses flavor with a nicely bitter finish. It all goes together pretty well.
