COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bridge Road Brewers together with gypsy brewer Mikkel Borg Bjergs of Mikkeller created a one off brew one Friday evening of March 2012. The result is The Dark Harvest. Inspired by the timing of the collaboration, it was decided to make a dark beer, using locally grown fresh hops. Of several research hops being grown at Rostrevor Hop Garden, one variety stood out for selection and was harvested just hours before being added to this beer.

In bottle, thanks Stuart. Pours a very dark brown colour with fair tan head. Aroma of roasty malt, sweet pumpkin, liquorice, pine and chocolate. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Alcohol is well balanced. Nicely bitter.

Bottle. Pours black witha off white head. Licorice and citrus notes in the aroam. Crisp and hoppy at first. Then the dark malts and licorice takes over. Small herbalness in the aftertaste. This ones more about the hops and less about the malts (compared to other Black IPAs).

Davros (2966) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 9, 2012
Pours dark brown with a large, light tan head. Nose shows fruity hops, with pinapple and passion fruit the most prominent. Underneath is roasted malt and nutty notes. Very tempting. Roasted malt takes precedence over the hops in the flavours, with nutty, biscuit-like malt and earthy coffee notes at the forefront. Not too much in the way of hops other than in the piny, grapefruit-like assertive bitterness. Could use a richer body.

ALLOVATE (2958) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 2, 2014
An impressive beer from start to finish. It produces up a midnight brown with a big, whipped cream, cappuccino foam that trails a mean lace. Nose hints at twiggy bark, mocha and bitter/sweet roasted cocoa beans, tree resin, pine needles and smoky phenols. Similar in the mouth. A lean towards strong, roasted malts over hops proves to work well. Body is medium and it lingers oh so long between sips. Smoky, chalky and woody with huge roasted coffee and bitter, dark chocolate notes. Light note of stonefruit and citrus pokes out from underneath giving it a supple juiciness. Quite dry overall with just enough sweetness for complexity. Wow, this is good. Gets better as it warms. A smashing ale. Well done! (33cL, Bottled on 10/04/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Palate - soft carb, thin to medium body. Finish slightly dry, as main flavour.

danlo (2753) - Darlington, Durham, ENGLAND - JUL 1, 2013
330ml bottle. Pours black in colour with a thick tan head leaving some lacing and aroma of roasted malt, coffee plus grapefruit hop. Taste is initially sweetish dark malt, roasted, smokey, coffee, followed by chocolate, raisins and fruity citrus grapefruit & pine hop bitterness. Nicely smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, clean finish with some lingering chocolate notes. Well balanced, very drinkable black IPA.

330mL bottled 10/14/14 Deep ruby-highlighted brown body, holds a tan head. Muted aroma somewhat; rich maltiness, lots of toasted nuttiness and cocoa, with resiny hops, hints of tropical fruits & leafiness. Full body, oily texture, seems stronger than abv suggests. Quite intense - burnt malts, cocoa, burnt sugar & toast, with hop notes of ripe rockmelon, peach, paw paw, leaves & mown grass. Strong bitterness, drying finish. Full on beer, theres some interesting hop character in there, but somewhat overshadowed by everything else going on.

On tap at beer de luxe. Very tasty, with very good balance. Aromas of coffee, grass, and caramel. Taste is sweet and bitter, with very long length. Palate is creamy and full bodied. Looks are beautiful; black with a big frothy head.
