12 oz bottle poured clear, red-amber with a very good head.
Malty, very lightly spicy (perhaps just from hops). Chocolate by the finish, is quickly joined by a hint of coffee. Aftertaste is dominated by dark roasted malts.
O: decent but unexceptional brown ale. beerguy101 (5364) - Newark, California, USA - NOV 18, 2002
Dark amber color, medium head. Aroma is cherry. Mild tasting ale, mild malts and slightly spicy, although its more fruity than malty. Kind of an average and mild tasting beer, as winter warmers go. There is a slightly metallic taste. Mouthfeel is a little harsh. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is little bitter and somewhat fruity. heemer77 (5361) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - DEC 11, 2008
Lightly hazy dark copper brown body with a light khaki head. The aroma is light and sweet with cake donut and hints of dried apricots. The body is highly carbonated, but it is not distracting. The taste is dried apricots and black tea. There is also some roast and hints of light coffee in the finish. A nice brew that was worth picking up. Bottle, special procurement. Red with a thin white head. Cherries in the nose. Nice balance with slight sweetness rounded by a peppery aftertaste. Not bad. oldrtybastrd (5228) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 6, 2005

Not a bad winter beer. Deep amber with a nice thick head. Rich and malty with a good grassy hop balance. Has a nice spicy body. CapFlu (5132) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 12, 2003
(Bottle) Pours virtually no head and is a ruby-brown colour. Typical ale aroma of malt and molasses. Initial taste of watery malt, as stated below, then a mid-flavour peak of spice and strong malt. Finishes with a fizzy, hoppy and red wine flavour that fades into dry. Very delightful mix of flavours. Thanks to Crit for this great West Coast experience. Bottle Pours a clear dark redish brown witha small off white head that quickly settles but still manages to maintain nice very resilient lacing. Aroma is a very nice plum cherry fruity combo with an alchol, almost cough syrup hint. Flavors are consistant, pitted fruit, alcohol is up front but not too strong. A bit of cherry throat lozenges and nsome nice dark malts. Easy on the hops. Palate is not particularly rich and the aftertaste is a slightly smokey somewhat bitter wood/grass flavor. Pours a medium brown with a thin, off white head. The nose brings a small amount of spice forward. I think I’m getting cinnamon and nutmeg, but never entirely sure. I really need to start having these beers with my spice rack nearby. A bit of caramel and toffee in there as well. Taste is a bit of doughy bread with light caramel and some spice. Light to medium body with good carbonation levels. Not at all overspiced, this drank pretty well.

Dark brown in color and cloudy with an average size head. Hop aromas with slight caramel hints. Hop flavors dominate. Not the best as a winter warmer.
