Bottle. Half-inch tan had that recedes to a sheen retained over the top layer. Light copper in color with red-orange highlights. You know those little gummies that come in fun-sized packs and are shaped like Scooby Doo or Transformers? This beer has a candy sweetness akin to those. Also red grapes, bread, vanilla and oak. Smells similar to a Dr. Pepper. The flavor begins with the candy sweetness: apples, grapes, gummies. Sourdough breadiness and the oak follow. The bottle says 30 percent of the beer was aged in oak barrels, but it tastes like more. Like a molasses campfire. Light yet creamy body; peppery carbonation. Not bad, Bridgeport. Not bad at all. I split this bomber with my pops, but now I’m kind of upset I did. I could easily put back more of this. maekchu (4024) - Hirakata, JAPAN - MAR 13, 2015
Bottle from the discount bin at Five Points Bottle Shop (Atl Highway). Rich fruity nose, citrusy, lightly smoky, and some small notes of oxidation. Hazy ruddy brown color. Brown sugar, sweet malt. It goes thin in mid palate. Light fruitiness. Medium body. Overall, a bit too sweet and sugary. slowrunner77 (12586) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 4, 2014
"you get the feeling this was a textbook scotch ale before the barreling. no frills, but spot om for the style, and tasty if you like peet. the barreling softens things up just a little (still less than 7%) and gives it an extra layer of sweetness, vanilla, and oak, but the smokiness still is the key player in the aroma and flavor. a nice ale." ads135 (4923) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUN 25, 2013
Mild and drinkable. Somewhat sweet, mostly caramel with some breadiness and grassy hops. Headbanger (4020) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - FEB 23, 2013
22oz bottle 2/23/13 (Binny’s Naperville)-42° in Snifter-Pours brown with an off white head. Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla, caramel, and toffee. Taste of the same with some oak, smoke, and more vanilla. This medium to full bodied brew is well balanced and quite tasty. Nice job.

It poured a dark brown color with an off-white head. The aroma was of brown sugar and yeast. The taste was smokey with burnt sugar and a flavor that lingers on with a nice crisp finish. Decent. Darkover (1542) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 24, 2012
