COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

Pours copper with a large lasting head. Nose shows caramel, toffee, bready malt and nutty notes. Also some soft spicy hops. Some caramel transfers through as a flavour along with some bready notes. A fairly sharp, metallic finish follows from the combined alcohol and bitterness. Body feels overly syrupy.

330mL bottle. Pours very light red (almost golden) but is does have a nice toffee/grassy aroma with a quickly fading head. Very sweet toffee flavour with piney/grassy notes from the hops. I dont mind this beer but i think it would be much better fresh at the brewery but i guess what isnt?

Slight but fruity nose. Tastes like caramel, grass and booze. Aftertaste is slight soy sauce. Bitterness deep down accumulates and becomes an issue halfway or so through a glass, but otherwise a good drink.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Very malt driven with light floral hops behind it all. Solid and easy drinking for the abv. Worth a shot

thetmaxx (905) - West Sacramento, California, USA - OCT 13, 2012
Poured from the bottle not fully chilled, just cool. Aroma is very nicely hoped. The malt is also coming through on the aroma. It is really balanced, with citrus notes, earthy and spicey notes. Flavour is much more mellow, while the bitterness is nice. The malt character is also good, very balanced. the palate is stcky oily like a IPA and finishes slightly sweet.

Aroma of wet tobacco. Clear, rusty red color. Bitter hop flavor, but tastes of too much alcohol. Palate lingers in a bad way.

3 oz draft sampler pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of malts, yeast and floral. Taste is caramel malts, nuts and hops.

Finhead (1652) - OFallon, Illinois, USA - SEP 19, 2012
Clear, reddish-copper with a small, off-white head. The aroma has floral hops and caramel with mild spice. It has a medium body with a smooth texture and average carbonation. The taste bitter, especially during the long, dry finish.

Bottle - Clear amber pour with cascading bubbles that rise to a creamy off-white head. Nose is lightly nutty toasted bread, with a bit of carmel sweetness. Restrained pine, grass, and herbal hops. Taste has bitter citrus and pine hops throughout, that bite a little too much for my taste. Alcohol is present too, which belies the mild toastiness of the base malt. A bit spicy, with a bit of sweetness, but other than the booziness this doesnt feel like a big beer. Totally disjointed, even through the long finish as the malt and hops seem blown out of balance by the heat. Medium-bodied and slick, with ample carbonation. Pretty disappointed in this one.

Aubrey (3509) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - SEP 18, 2012
Toasty and rich with a moderate amount of sweetness (brown sugar, nuts, toffee and toast) and a healthy amount of hops to boot (earthy, herbaceous, grassy). In the end, a malty sweetness prevails, though. Slightest nip of grapefruit in the background. Solid, cozy beer.
