Pours a light amber, very clear with a small amount of off-white foam. Aroma consists mainly of candy-like caramel sweetness and a bit of earthy spice, tiny bit of ground coffee in the background and a little fruity ester. Flavor is somewhat underwhelming, for something advertised as being triple hopped one would expect more of a hop presence. Hops here are tame and definitely lean more toward a noble in both flavor and aroma with earthy, floral, and spicey qualities. Mouthfeel is medium and is accentuated by the sweetness that seems a bit out of balance. Compared to other strong ales and especially those that would dub themselves as being a "red ale", this one is boring and relatively lifeless. aracauna (3606) - Georgia, USA - JUL 12, 2012
This is a very malty beer. Caramel, some nuttiness. I’m not entirely pleased with how the hops interact, however. laiti (8481) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUL 12, 2012

Aroma is sweet with fruits, peaches and honey. Flavour is hoppy with resin and some peaches. This has some hops that linger in my mouth for a long time and they do not feel nice.

Reddish amber with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, and earth. Taste is rather mild; malty and a touch sweet with a mild hop presence. Medium body. cblado (298) - Washington, USA - JUL 7, 2012
12 oz bottle. Pours a reddish copper color. Thick pearly head, nice lacing. Aroma is sweet, with toffee tones. Flavor is sweet but not cloying. There is a rich hop flavor, but it’s not overpowering. Rather than a citrusy hop nose, the hops come in the aftertaste along with the toffee malt flavors. Overall, I enjoyed this quite a bit. I would definitely buy it again. larryLSB (533) - La Selva Beach, California, USA - JUN 12, 2012
Bottle, 12 oz, poured into my favorite glass. Reddish amber in color with good sized off white head. Sweet malty nose, with a hint of citrus. Medium bodied, creamy taste. Good beer overall, maybe because it is a "double". Ferris (15336) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 4, 2012
Draft - Aromatic hops and some caramel in the background. Amber hue with medium persistent head. Sweetness from the malts upfront easing into a hoppy bitterness. I think the bitterness is a bit over the top for the style. taters88 (2) - - MAY 25, 2012 does not count
One of my favorite beers. It is a well constructed double red ale that takes some time initially to get use to, but when poured in a glass lets out its full aroma. As a ginger I am always partial to Reds and as a long time fan of Grand Theft Auto I can’t help but like the gangster appeal. For a mainstream widely distributed beer you can tell that a lot of effort was put into this beer and the double filtration is very apparent with its clean taste both initially and afterwards. It has an extremely filling taste that is sour and sweet at the end. Overall for the price I rank this as one of my favorite beers. Just be careful as the abv (7.5) can sneak up on you :P.
