KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

Savannah, Ga - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Dark copper pour, sticky off-white head. Hoppy, bitter aroma wit soem decent aromatic pine notes. Flavor has a nice solid bitterness to it with some underlying spiciness. Juicy grapefruit bitter notes, some syrupy maple notes. Thickish mouthfeel. Just this side of decent.

Spicy hops and a little caramel malt on the nose. Taste is interesting cuz its not too bitter and not too sweet therefore making it taste like it cant make its mind up. Theres a slight sourness. Spicy hops and Slight citrus hop followed by a some malt and a little earthiness. A bit a of bread and yeast flavour too. Its nice and quite interesting but I dont think Ill bother getting myself another anytime soon.

bottle at daks 1/31/11. orange color with an ow head. aroma and flavor of bittering hops, skunk, caramel and alcohol. this stinks of booze. brash and bleh.

Nice and crisp with a bit of a toasty bite. Not sweet, but not terribly bitter either...quite smooth in fact. Average carbonation and a fairly abrupt finish.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Habersham Liquors. It pours a deep hazy amber color with a small, light tan head. The nose is very malty with notes of bread, apple, pear, and alcohol. The flavor has lots of apple, alcohol, and bittering hops in this brew. The rye adds a different characteristic. Brash and forward, this one doesnt come together well. Some raisin and dried fruit come out as the brew warms. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Pours a clear ruby amber with with light colored head. Smell is nice and fruity with some hints of citrus and banana. Taste is more bittersweet banana and clove notes. Very slight funk in the aftertaste but all in all a pretty good beer.

Pours clear orange-red with nice off white head, aroma has nice notes of rye, biscuit, toffee with some spice, grass and pine hops to back it, touch of earth in there as well. Taste is nice spice, rye, grass, some slight metallic notes, goes into more rye, toffee and caramel, finishing slightly bitter.

12oz bottle that I could tell was at the correct temperature just by placing my finger on it and actually touching it. This beer clearly lacks a slick gimmicky label scheme to relieve me of the need to actually touch the bottle, . . . ICK!! Well, it pours clear amber with a rutty red tint and white head. The aroma has bold sweet dark fruity esters, some caramel candy and a sense of earthiness. The taste delivers prunes, cherries and some raisin. These notes mix with some roasted malts, some chocolate malts and a bit of earthiness. I also get a bit of spicy hops here and there too. Seems like an estery old school brew.

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2011 Wow,low ratings. This is a nice roasty red ale-maybe people dont know what a red ale i s suppose to be like. Right away aroma is very malty sweet with english,some hop-herbal spice aroma type Mineral aroma after the short malt aroma.Flavor is classic red ale pretty roasty and bitter towards the end,hop flavor is robust very grassy bittering. With the caramel you get a almost burnt like carmel with a robust hop bitter med-light body and dry with a pronounced dark bitter(Maybe the hops) finish.I didnt get much of a hop aroma but alot of it in flavor and bittering. Pretty good red ale.Lots of yeast floaties and hop aroma has lost its way probably from shelf life. Overall its a pretty herbal bittered beer with a very dry robust dark /burnt roast taste going on with maybe some clashing citrus. This is slightly not decent,there is this love/hate thing about this beer. I think maybe the finish has this odd citrus burnt bitterness also,like a dark burnt roasted citrus,kind of harsh and odd,but not bad at the same time.

Ick. Color is fine, head is fine, aroma is uninteresting. Tastes bitter and harsh. Has a long bitter finish. I didnt find anything here that was interesting or tasty. Really, a beer that is below boring, which is to say, it was unappealing.
