3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2016 Re-rate with a No. 014 bottling. The main difference is the taste. It’s woody, vanilla and caramel but a bit watery. The texture is a little lighter as well. Still enjoyable but not as flavorful.
------ 013 Bottling from a 22 oz bottle.
Thin head on a hazy, copper colored body.
The aroma is rich and deep: grain, bread and woody, like oak.
The taste is complex. It starts out woody, deep malt sweetness, bitterness in the middle, finishes candy sweet.
Smooth texture, low carbonation and heavy body.
A complex and deeply flavorful beer.
Heavy malt aroma with a sweet cherry hit and also grapes, pours a murky ruby to brown colour with a solid creamy head, flavours of sweet cherry and dark fruits with vanilla coming forward, full bodied and warming, very enjoyable. Gerbeer (3891) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 22, 2016
650 ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany with moderate head. Aromas of dark sweet fruit, dried strawberries, spicy oak and toasted malts. Flavors of dry red berries, grassy hops, oak, and sweet malts with a light bitter finish. Really tasty. Very nice. BVery (11209) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - NOV 10, 2015
Tap at Bridgeport. Copper colored pour. Dense smaller head. Bold oak, some caramel. Not overly complex but quite good. Somewhat dry finish. brokensail (16633) - Dublin, California, USA - JUN 22, 2015
On tap @ Bridgeport. Nice rich amber color with a white head. Tons of sweet raisin, caramel, and marmalade. A big time weed happiness. Mild oak. Lots of dark fruits. There’s an almost candied apple flavor to this. A lot of caramel, some jam, and stone fruit. A little boozy on the back end. Oak and spirit are pretty mild other than maybe altitude vanilla. Bottle from Crabapple Bottle Shoppe. Caramel, dark fruit, mild earthy hop presence, oak, vanilla, medium high sweet. Really dug it.

Pretty tradiitonal red ruddy barleywine. A little on the simple side with an aroma of malt, alcohol and sugar, but it tasted tamer than it smelled. A nice brew if you are a barleywine fan, but nothing that stands out." jkwood04 (5463) - Connecticut, USA - JUL 27, 2014
22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours deep, hazy brown with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee and pale malts, light chocolate, alcohol, floral and bitterhops, and some light oak/vanilla. Flavor the same with not the best blend. Average texture. Not the best barley wine. brewballs (215) - USA - JUN 29, 2014
Bridgeport puts out stuff that never wows. And this barleywine is no exception. A plum hue. Slightly foamy head. You can smell the malts too much. A bit carbonated as well. Has a flat buttery scotch taste. The wash down is dry and bitter. Nothing really extraordinary about it. Kinda boring and typical. chuckstout (336) - Washington, USA - MAY 29, 2014
Imparts aromas of caramel, toffee, fruit, vanilla and a touch of oak. A nice clear deep burgundy with candy red highlights. Flavor similar to the aroma and sweet with decent body. sjohnny (662) - - MAY 23, 2014
Dark fruit, vanilla, caramel. Pours cloudy orange tinted caramel brown with a light off-white head. Dark fruit balanced with a bright (floral?) flavor. Velvety mouthfeel. This is a thick feeling beer with a lot of flavor. Smooth with a hint of esters on the finish and just a bit of edgy bitterness to keep things interesting.
