This is a pretty darn good barleywine. Very drinkable and full bodied with decent flavor. Pours nice and dark. I will have this one again. nstal (237) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 19, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2003 First had this brew on cask at the brewpub in portland. It's amazing on cask. I just opened up a bottle, 2003 vintage. It's pretty darn good in a bottle. Beautiful appearance, masks the ABV well, a little fruity. Rerate:bonus points for cask, I had it again recently. gwfrankpsu (231) - McKinleyville, California, USA - MAR 25, 2002
This was a 1992, tasted in 2002 - lots of sediment, wonderful aroma, very tasty, may have been past it’s prime and not always cellared well. This is a very good beer, should have drank it two years ago. DrunkenWeasel (224) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 12, 2005
Pours medium amber with a thing white head. Mostly diminishing head with decent lacing. Smells of sweet, hops, and bitter smelling. Real sweet and then gets real bitter neat bear. Hophazard (193) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 17, 2011
Dark fruit is quickly followed by a mustiness, pungent tartness. Pours a deep ruby color with off white head. Plum, blackberry jam begins, drying out the palate in the process. Chewy and thick; almost syrupy. Alcohol warmth reminds you that this is a barleywine. Will warm you up from the inside.

First off, it's ugly as all hell. No head, and a weird kind of see-through purple color. A little bit of cherries in the otherwise boring aroma. Very thin and even a little fizzy. I pick up some nyquil underneath all that fizz. I can drink it, but only because I'm a sucker for barleywines. This is way short of what I'm looking for though. I won't be buying this again, especially because there's so many more to choose from that are so much better (Full Sail, Victory, DogFish Head Immort Ale, etc.). No complexity or anything interesting in a positive way at all. CaptKirk (175) - Hephzibah, Georgia, USA - OCT 22, 2005
Reddish brown with a tan head that stays only as a reminder that this beer is different. Very complex and strong alochol taste, which was not expected with the sweet sugary aroma. The fruity taste subsides to the hoppiness for a bitter finish. Not a bad beer, but watch how much of it you drink! porterdude (170) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - AUG 2, 2005
2003 bottle. Hey it was X-mas in July so what better way to celebrate than with a Barley Wine? Well this barley wine lived up to everything i could ask from it. Big citrus flavors with a good amount of yeasty character. Some fruits in the nose of the raisin and fig variety. They say there is alcohol in this beer?? Were was it, i dint taste it, but i did feel it a bit later, that is a different story. JonnyC22 (164) - Huntsville, Alabama, USA - NOV 27, 2006
A little light for a barleywine, but great. Malty. Seems like something Frodo Baggins would drink on the way through the Elvish realm. dkingsella (152) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 3, 2009
Pours a dark reddish brown with off white head. Aroma of cherry and alcohol. Flavor was fruity with bitter finish. Alcohol was prominent in the flavor profile...may benefit from some aging. Not my favorite Barley Wine.
