Loved this one. Mighty malty - toffee? sure, and more, figs, prunes, whatever it isyou’re pulling from the old jam jar and topping with hops. I like this one and as much as I figured I would hold onto a bottle it looks like I’ve drunk them all. Sigh. Anyone up for a drive? biermonk (265) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - NOV 20, 2004
Cheers Gromit for yet another tastey beverage...POurs a dark red with a small off-white head that is quick to dissipate...Aroma is sweet with alcohol coming through...Starts out with some sweet maltiness that is coupled with dark fruit and a good dose of almost assertive hopppiness...Finnish seems a little sticky...This is a jam up Barleywine raphael (1256) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 8, 2006
Been a couple years since I’d had one, & longer since on tap. wite sugar aroma, bubblegum, hint of bourbon. surprisingly light in body. thin white head (co2). flavor whiskey flavor approaching brandy, bitter cherry, light hops just above the sweetness. adds up smoothness akin to a 7 star metaxa (if only i’d had it at home a littel warmer & in a snifter.) really good stuff. strong rich and slight alco esters in the nose, cognac quaff with a wine finish, hoppy bite at the end, really tasty argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 14, 2002
1999 version. Deep amber, slightly cloudy, minimal head. Aroma is sweet, slightly vinous, rich. Taste is straight-up barleywine -- sweet (somewhat fruity), big hoppy beer, with loads of malts balancing things out. Good alcohol burn on the swallow.

Mahogany colored with a small creamy beige head. SMells and taste like sweet raisins. Has a medium body and velvetty palate. Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - AUG 3, 2004
RBSG 2004: Clear orange/red color, small white head. Raisins, plums and brown sugar in the aroma, starts off lightly sweet and gets a bit more sweet. Full bodied, oily texture, lively carbonation. brewshthereen (316) - Oregon, USA - AUG 17, 2004
I have been waiting to get my hands on this brew for a while. I am happy to report this beer did not disappoint at all. Powerful, dark fruit aroma. Alcohol spice in the nose. Robust maltiness and well developed flavors. Somewhat cloying but still chewy and full of goodness. I expected this to be rated higher. Overall, a fantastic barley wine. Fine combination in the aroma of malt, hops, caramel and butterscotch. Auburn, small toffee head. The flavour is treacle and hops, which comes off a bit unusual but fine. Full bodied, mellow and warming. Marvellous! Thanks wohlfs and many Thanks to joey_capps for his hospitality during the Family adjustments he, Christi and Hunter are going through!! joeycapps (1468) - Waterdown, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 24, 2004
No. 011--2003 Vintage. Bright, clear chestnut. Light tan foam w/ fine bead. Rich, fruity & malty flavour of Christmas cake & butterscotch. Full bodied, resiny, syrupy feel. Complex fruity (cherries, plums, raisins) & malty Christmas cake flavour. Warm brady-ish notes in the finish.
