No. 011--2003 Vintage. Bright, clear chestnut. Light tan foam w/ fine bead. Rich, fruity & malty flavour of Christmas cake & butterscotch. Full bodied, resiny, syrupy feel. Complex fruity (cherries, plums, raisins) & malty Christmas cake flavour. Warm brady-ish notes in the finish. lb4lb (2587) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAY 3, 2008
Pours dark amber with small offwhite head. Smell is sweet, touch of alcohol, and nice fresh hops. Taste is smooth mild malt followed by a bit of warming alcohol that is unobtrusive, however, and some nice spicy bittering hops. Nicely bittered as well. Slightly syrupy body with medium carbonation. This is definitely a well above average barley wine and I really enjoyed it. kevinsenn (2215) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 9, 2013
On tap at BridgePort. Clear ruby with tan lacing. Sweet cherry and raisin aroma. Fruity hoppy candy taste, light bitter finish - nice. Medium-full body. Definitely the best I tried from BridgePort. bpreo (2840) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - FEB 2, 2015
They have No. 014 and No. 015, and who knows what else. This one has a rich, earthy flavor, a lot like whiskey. Delicious. a10555 (125) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - JUN 11, 2007
This was a surprisingly nice and mild barleywine. I don’t usually like barley wines and this was really nice. I had it on the sampler at bridgeport brewery.
gotta get me some.

12oz. 2003 bottling, #011, with thanks to John (jjpm74) for this, as part of his most generous Christmas cheer forum giveaway! Pours a clear ruby tinted amber with a frothy dark tan head that maintains a whispy covering throughout. Aroma is dominated by sweet caramel and toffee malts, some brown sugar and light vanilla. Flavor seems to hold its own alright and supports the aroma, but overall just a bit thin and watery. No notable alcohol or warmth detected. Malty, smooth, and not bad. Based on recent reviews, it seems like older and younger bottlings are not doing as well right now, so feel pretty lucky to have gotten a chance to try this at a good point. Thanks again John! shigadeyo (3740) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 8, 2008

2003 Vintage (11th Bottling)
6//2008: BridgePort Old Knucklehead 2003 Barley Wine Style Ale has a milky, dark copper/amber-color. The a thin, but creamy and dense dark ivory crown really doesn’t last very long. Sweet dark fruits (dates, raisins, touch of fig), soft caramel, creamy vanilla, and well-aged alcohol (brandy-like) are detected in the aroma. This barleywine has a very refined and well-aged flavor. It is sweet, but not overly so and just slightly oxidized at this point (5+ years only). Flavors include molasses, raisins, and charred cedar. The once citrusy hops have collapsed and aged into a nice leathery, kind of pruny and tobacco-like flavor minged with dried apricot in the background and finish. The alcohol can be felt, but it is quite muted in the flavor. This beer has a medium body and is really smooth. It is also a bit lighter and more watery than expected, but maybe feels this way due to lack of carbonation. Otherwise, this barleywine exceeded my expectations and I really enjoyed it.

22 oz. bottle. Pours ruby red with a thin head. Syrupy, as expected from a barleywine. Strong aroma and flavor of caramel. Sweet with a definite hop and alcohol presence, but not so hoppy or boozy as to overshadow the malty, caramel flavors. A solid barleywine that I’d drink again. blutt59 (6564) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAR 30, 2013
