3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Light toasted aroma. Perfectly clear with a light brown head. Heavy roasted pallette with some bitterness from the malt. Very little hoppiness of any kind. Flavor most like an English mild.
Poured from growler into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a medium dark brown color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a little bit of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is a nice blend of chocolate and caramel giving it a very sweet aroma. Along with these smells are some roasted malt smells mixed with a hint of an herbal aroma as well as with a bit of a vanilla sweetness and a light nuttiness.
Taste – The taste begins with a nice roasted malt flavor with some hints of a light chocolate and with some sweeter flavors of caramel and vanilla. As the taste advances, the chocolate and vanilla actually fade a little bit with some flavors of nut replacing these. The nuttiness grows more and more intense as the flavor moves onto the end, and with a little bit of an increase in light herbal and earthy hop tastes, one is left with a somewhat roasty and bitter flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side for a brown ale with a carbonation level that is slightly higher side, especially for a growler pour. For a brown ale a little more thickness and creaminess as well as a little lower carbonation level would have likely been better for the roasty and nutty flavors of the brew and given these flavors much more umph.
Overall – A pretty decent brown ale with a nutty and drier flavor overall. Nothing too exceptional but still a decent drinker.
