This rebellious Brigand is a dry bitter, blonde beer that re-ferments in the bottle. It used to be amber in colour; now it is pale blonde thanks to the use of pale malts and pils malt as well as unmalted wheat. Brigand tastes full in the mouth with a slightly malty aroma. It also has a slightly malty taste with accents of spices and hops. The hop bitterness comes through in the finish.

Ingredients: water, barley malt (Pale, Pilsener), unmalted wheat, sugar, hops, yeast, antioxidant (ascorbic acid).

GoufCustom (2007) - HONG KONG - MAR 18, 2016

330 ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.

Clear light golden orange colour with thin traces of dirt like yeast sediments; One finger head with crumpet white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with active small carbonation; Fragrant aroma of malt, with apricot, light vanilla, caramel, quite strong alcohol, sugar, strong Bel yeast and light lemon; Strong sweet taste of fair malt, with light caramel, pretty strong alcohol, strong liquorices, ligt red fruits, strong molasses, light black pepper, light spices, Bel yeast, very light lime, light bitter hops and light grass; Medium body, slick and creamy palate; Mouth feel is fairly light maltyness in a thinned but very smooth background. Alcoholic but not as sweet as most Kasteel beers with fairly sharp liquorices. Not much fruity esters except bare bone red fruits. Slightly spice and peppery with very light lime to round. Simple and okay… Hoppiness is light lemon in nose. Pepper, spice, light lime and light grass in taste. Bitterness is moderately sharp for an abrupt, mid astringent bitter-sweet finish; Quite dry after taste. Creamy and slightly boozy to mouth.

Comments: Of all the Van Honsebrouck’s strong beers, this one is perhaps the least sweet and least boozy. Its nice head and creaminess is also quite appealing. On the other hand it’s too simple in aroma and taste to be impressive. Overall it’s a clean and safe BSA but nothing special.

Beetje slap bier. Zoet, weinig hop of smaak evolutie. Niet echt een bijzonder bier wat mij betreft.

Daanminator (476) - Waalwijk, NETHERLANDS - JAN 19, 2016
Mooi gouden kleur met flinke stevige schuimkraag. Het bier smaakt best goed, kan alleen de smaak niet thuis brengen.
