Raisins and roasted cereals move into bitterness in this lean Milk Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam tops the brown-hued black.
-This is not that sweet for a milk stout. Good job there.
-Malt flavors are well developed.
-Meaty accents are found.
-Carbonation is really low (lower than the average cask, I mean) and doesn’t prop the malts up all that well.

Pint at the Split Chimp Newcastle. Pitch black with a creamy tan head. Bitter chocolate and roasted nut aroma. Aromas present in the flavour, with some milky liquorice sweet shop flavour and an understated ashiness. Avoids over-sweetness. Oily palate. Bottle from Cool Wine Hobart 291215. This is my first beer from Bristol Beer Factory and hopefully it won’t be my last. Unfortunately I haven’t ever seen their beers anywhere here in Brisbane and I picked this bottle up from Cool Wine in Hobart last time I was there. You would hope that an English brewery would know how to brew a good stout and these guys surely do. Brewed with local raw ingredients and bottle conditioned this milk stout looks good in the glass with a shiny black colour and a smooth crest of light coffee coloured foam.
The thing that I really like about this beer is that it is not overly bitter as some stouts tend to be and there is a touch of sweetness that cuts through into the finish. The aroma is very much chocolate and malt and the flavour also tends to lean towards chocolate as well. This is not a beer that you want to drink really cold and I found as the beer warmed up the aromas and the flavours seemed to intensify.
This beer is all about the malt and hops barely get a look in. The beer is full in the mouth with a rich creamy mouthfeel and a finish that makes you think that you have just eaten chocolate. Although stouts are more traditionally drank in the colder winter months this one was enjoyable in the balmy summer heat. A beer and a brewer that I would go back to without any hesitation and at 4.55 ABV one that you could easily drink a few pints of. mabel (9246) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 12, 2015
