Bottle direct from the brewery. Pours a near black, with tinge of treacle-ruby colour at the base of the glass. Head is thick and long lasting, cream in colour. Natural carbonation medium to low, could be lower but pretty bang on. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, and sweet dirt. Mouthfeel smooth and a little sticky. Slightly sweet with caramel notes but not too sickly. Nice level of bitterness that lingers and balances well the sweetness of the beer. Great example of the style.

Cask at the Eldon Arms, Reading. A glossy black body with a tight beige head that laces the glass to the bottom; sweet chocolatey aroma; lactic body, really sweet with lots of well toasted chocolate malts; then a drier, nutty finish. A really good stout.
