Poured from bottle (room temp) a cloudy dark amber with a small head of foam that... remained throughout my session
The smell is very strong of malt sweetness....I'm hoping that this doesn't translate to an overly sweet taste.
The taste is very malty up front but in the background, some hop bitterness is noted and prevents this BWSA from being too sweet. As I take more sips, I find that this is one very well balanced and smooth tasting brew of the style and the drinkablity is *very* good considering the abv. Yum!!
Bottom line: I'm glad I bought 4 bottles of this stuff (2 are going to Nutbrown as part of a huge trade)cuz I find it to be a wonderful example of the style; my next trip to Ft Collins, I'm buying more if there's any left!! williamstome (2038) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 27, 2017

Enjoyed a 12oz glass of this beer at the brewpub in the Ivy Wild school in Colorado Springs. The beer had a somewhat cloudy red-amber color with a dark hue and an average-sized off-white creamy head with modest retention, cling, and lacing. Its aroma featured a blend of malty notes, including caramel, toffee, and spices, along with some scotch and brandy scents, and a bit of fruit. The taste was lightly sweet with some caramel malt and toffee flavors, along with some sour and bitter fruit and liquor components. On tap at the brewery. Opaque brown, with a medium, tan head. The nose is caramel, earth, pine, and light licorice. Fairly sweet and malty, with a lot of bitterness. Heavy body, lightly astringent, syrupy, with a clean finish. This is pretty nice barley wine. Draft at the brewpub. Pours opaque murky brown with a fizzy off white head. Tastes like sweet raisin, dry booze, roasted malt, and some sweet caramel. Medium body and low/medium carbonation. Smells like raisin, rum, woody, boozy, and toffee.

Definitely an English style barley wine. Hops do not add complexity to the beer, but there is a nice caramelly flavor. Alcohol is not present as many other beers of this style. 33 cl. Robe presque rouge sans tête mais avec ce qui m’apparaît être des jambes. Nez très fruité (fruits secs et macérés, figues, oranges confites) rendu doux par de généreuses céréales. Saveurs réconfortantes et franchement liquoreuses. Notes douces et amères. Corps gras sans bulles significatives. Finale modérément chaude avec un goût franc de malts grillés. Pour is a dark hazed copper with red edges and tan thin head. Nose is fairy sweet with heavy malt component. A hint dusty and a faint green/herbal hop. Taste is strong berry, candied sugar, brown sugar, faint chocolate malt and a touch of toasted nut. Full bodied and solid carbonation, a bit chalky in the finish. Green hops and a light hop bitterness linger through the back end.
