Pours dark brown, black in the glass, with a rapidly diminishing tan head. Aromas of toast, oatmeal, coffee, and a faint earthy pine note. Medium body, low carbonation, lightly dry. Mildly sweet, a hint of tartness, mild bitter finish with a lingering oaty bitterness. Well balanced, smooth, not as thick or sweet as might be expected.

Enjoyed a pint of this beer at the brewpub at the Ivy Wild school in Colorado Springs. The beer had a rich, thicker dark black appearance with a dark hue and a good-sized creamy, darker off-white head with good retention, cling, and lacing. Its aroma had notes of oatmeal, bread, and grain, along with some malt and caramel scents for balance. The taste was somewhat sweet, featuring oatmeal, grain, and caramel, along with a mild bitter effect for balance. It was a fairly wet and creamy beer, with a nice, filling and smooth mouthfeel to go with ample carbonation.

I had this originally years ago and remembered it well, or so I thought. Sadly somewhat of a let down. Faint malty aroma. Average dark chocolate color but the palate was too watery, especially for an oatmeal stout. Flavor was above average with roasted malt and earthy tones.
