On tap at Churchkey. Served in a snifter. Love how they’re always bringing in these little-known sleepers. Pours a deep, deep brown with a slight off white head. The head subsides without much lacing on the glass, although there is a slight ring around the edges of the brew that persists throughout. Nose brings a very large dose of bourbon while at the same time remaining fairly mellow. Second sniff brings in a bit of brown sugar and hints of chocolate. With the first sip, bourbon is really the only thing that hits me. It’s quite mellow and creamy without any real presence of booze. Low carbonation. Not too heavy, more of a medium body. Taste also brings a tiny bit of roast as well as brown sugar. Fairly one dimensional, but the bourbon aging is so well done that I won’t fault them. My introduction to this brewpub, but I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-14-2010

Tap at Churchkey. Big bourbon nose that was almost nice, but is completely spoiled with heavy acetaldehyde. Taste is very sweet, very rough with again lots of acetaldehyde - green apple, some rubbing alcohol notes, plastic; Just an extremely messy beer.

Tap at the brewpub. Murky brown pour with creamy white head. Aroma is all apple pie with lots of spices and something strangely off about it all. Taste is very sweet and downright boozy, something very off here that I can’t put my finger on. Palate is decent, heavy and creamy but good. I probably won’t have this again any time soon.

Tap at Churchkey. Dark maroon, edge head. Aroma of embalming fluid - it was actually nauseating. Taste of rubbing alcohol, scotch and caramel candy. Best skipped.

Draft. Tan head atop cola/copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, Bourbon/vanilla, some vinous. Taste is moderately sweet, vinous/grape, vanilla/Bourbon. Lots of alcohol comes through. Sticky full body, low carbonation. Just another Bourbon behemoth that leaves very little character of the underlying beer.

Draught. Mondiale 2009 - day 3. Two amazing beer in a row from these guys? Daaaaamn!! Cloudy deep chestnut pour with a smallish creamy tan head. Slightly lactic dry aroma with wood resin, alcohol, sweet malt and lush, floral bitterness - juicy and very mouthwatering, even to someone well into his third straight day of beer festival mainlining, grimly determined to power through as many last-day ratings as possible - THIS one demanded time be taken to appreciate it. The taste was as promised - Oaky, somewhat boozy, but balanced out by citrus bitterness and fruity roast caramel malt sweetness - very appealing, not much vanilla/bourbon, thank goodness. Somewhat boozy, slick mouthfeel, with some astringency from the oak, but smooth-finishing, a real orange rind tingle left on the tongue too. Yum-my!
