On tap at BBF. Golden colour without head. Fruity aroma. Sweet, fruity and wine taste. Light to medium body.

Dark blond colour with lasting head. Aroma is very strong with sharp white wine. Tart and slightly funky.

Pours a a clear golden with a small white head that leaves pretty nice lacing. Nose is of red wine, oak with some trace acetone. The more I smell, the more it gets vinegary, better get to the taste already! Taste is pretty dry and winey again with some breakfast cereals in the finish. Never boozy. Body is light to medium, carbonation moderate. Vinous it goes (almost) without saying. I remember digging this one quite a bit back in 2012 but either the recipe or my palate changed since then. Still a pretty good wine BA strong ale but I can now name quite a few I prefer over this one!

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2017 New rating: Retasted this product after my bad experience, a lot more satisfying. Still a lot of acetic acid, but it is smoother than the last experience. Red wine forward, can’t taste the booze at all, sourish cereals, vinegary side. Previous Rating: Bottle, with new label. Hazy orange with reddish color, small head foam, that disappears after some time. Very effervescent. I can’t smell anything but nail polish sourness. I can’t find any subtle aromas or tasting notes, I could smell some sour fruits, vinegar, nail polish. Way too much acetic acid inside, it seems like the bottle was oxydated? Acetobacter worked like crazy? and the barrel wasn’t fill up with enough beer? During bottling? I don’t know but I’m totally not satisfied by this bottle. I’ll try to get another one so I can update this poor score.

Arcanor (421) - Quebec, CANADA - MAY 16, 2016
330ml bottle, bottled on 2013-07. Aged almost 3 years. Pour light copper with a tall crispy head that fadeout quickly champagne style. Dry raisin, citrus, oak and notes of red wine. Medium sweetness, a bit astringent like a a wine. Nice fruit taste can be perceived. Nice balance of alcool, wood and vinous taste at the end. I was septic at first, so I left this bottle on the shelf for a long time. But now, I have to find a new bottle to compare.

500ml bottle from Bières et Délices. July 2015 bottle. 8%. Aroma: sour cherries, orange blood, green apples. App: hazy golden, small white head, creamy on the sides and middle. Awesome thick lacing. Taste and palate: medium body, fruity, medium high carbonation, vinous, medium sweetness, light acidity finish. Overall: great! We can taste the Belgian signature but aged in red wine barrels which give it a nice vinous touch. Really liked it. Maybe would have liked a bit less carbonation which prevents us from detecting every goodness in this beer but still, this is awesome. Great job BW!

Bottle: Poured a clear light yellow color ale with a large pale white head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of light Bretty notes with some light tart notes with funky ester. Taste is also dominated by Bretty notes with some light tart notes with a light wine finish. Body is light with excellent carbonation. Very enjoyable with good complexity while retaining some drinkability.

330ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau, Quebec. Golden in colour with a large lingering white head, good lacing. The aroma is of grapes, floral, some wood. The flavour is moderately acidic, apples and grapes, lemons and some sweetness as well. Finishes only slightly warming, lingering sourness.

This is definitely a tough one to rate for a newb like me. Nose is...definitely complex. Cherry, oak, earthy, funky yeast, light grain, but there’s also a fair bit of nail polish remover masking it all. Taste is sour and acidic, but balanced with a fair bit of sweetness. White wine elements. Sour, earthy finish. I don’t think my mouth knows quite what to make of this stuff.

Un nez acidulé de petites cerises rouges et surettes accompagné de vinaigre de vin rouge et de subtiles notes de chêne. Un olfactif acidulé mais somme toute agréable et surtout très puissant. Le visuel est doré avec beaucoup de particules. La mousse est d’une épaisseur parfaite, très crémeuse et persistante, tout en laissant de belles traces sur le verre. L’attaque est acidulée et effervescente avec le retour des fruits sauvages tel les cerises et les petits fruits surettes. Le vin rouge démontre également sa présence mais en mode vinaigre. Quelques sous notes d’orange et de citron sont également présentes. En bouche, elle présente une effervescence marquée, un équilibre à point et une rondeur en demi-teinte. Le tout se passe dans l’acidité et le sucré. Bonne complexité des saveurs. Bière très agréable à boire mais très acidulée aussi.
