Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a cloudy dark brown with an orange hue and a dense and creamy beige leaving some lacework. Heavy hops in the nose combined with some licorice. Medium body, licorice dominates, heavy roast and a very bitter finish. Neat alright. 200312

Cask at William IV during Brodies Birthday Bash 2011. Pours black-brown with a white, foamy head. Lovely nose, rich pine, grapefruit, orange. Sweet, juicy flavor with restrained roastiness, plenty of resinous bitterness, some grass and orange juice. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Somewhat salty. Nice finish, oily pine, dark malts, subtle roast, citrusy sweetness, too. Excellent beer. Way to go, Brodies!

Bottle from Ales By Mail. A month and a half past the BB date event though I had just bought it. Still fairly fresh though. Hazy very dark brown with a lasting light brown head. Aroma is sweet, malty, roasted malt and rather hoppy - grapefruit. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 230315

Bottle at Ales & Tails, Twickenham - 15/12/12. Light black with a mahoooosive frothy tan head. Nose is pine, hops, chocolate, a little mustyness. Taste comprises pine, hops, liqourice, touch of chocolate, light metallic and mineral notes, bitter grapefruit, puff of smoke. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter dry finish. Decent.

Cask handpull at William IV Birthday Bash 2011. Very dark brown beerwith thin lasting beige head. Can smell the hops from it on the table. Decent hops in mouth some ok choc. Not overly roasty. Light choc notes then a fizzing hoppy bitterness on the finish. Decent.

Bottled 33cl. Dark brown-ruby color, good creamy brownish head. Aroma of fruity American hops, citrus, resin and "fermentation gases". Medium-bodied. Front and aftertaste have nice salted licorice then resiny, grapefruity bitterness. Quite hoppy with long lingering aftertaste. Classy black IPA.

Bottle. It pours a dark reddish brown body and a dense, finger-thick light beige colored head. The aroma is mostly on the fruity, hoppy side, as it should be, with a faint roasted touch in the back. Resins, green pine cones, citrus peel and some grapefruit. The flavor has a nice bitterness, with some roasted hints in the far back, and piney, grapefruity flavors up front. It’s full-bodied, with a nice carbonation, finishing bitter and hoppy. Certainly one of the best black IPA’s I’ve had, really tasteful and dangerously easy drinkable. 111229

Draft - Floral piny, herbal hops. Jet black with a creamy beige head. Perfumy hops, pine and some roast. Aromatic and perfumy with light roast. Nice.

Keg at Mason & Taylor (7% and named Dalston Black IPA). It pours very dark brown, with a ruby tinge and a thick creamy beige head. The nose is charcoal, resin and aniseed. The taste is resin, wood, charcoal, burnt caramel, salted liquorice, well hidden alcohol, roasted malt and a touch of smoke, with a big bitter-dry finish. Full body, fine carbonation and good balance. Really tasty stuff.
