Lovely black IPA. Pours dark brown, small tan frothy head. A little bitter, but tastes great. Enjoying Brodies beers, very good quality.
Bottle from Salt Horse, Edin. Pours very dark brown. Red at the edge. Light tan head that lasts and good, oily lacing. Quite a savoury richness in the aroma from the first blast. Dank piney aroma comes through next. Treacle. A touch of something smoky. Quite meaty, almost pepperoni-like. More malt than hops here but with still enough resinous hop presence. Strikes a different balance from most other Black IPA’s though. Taste has a bittersweet start. Charred peaches. Very pithy grapefruit. The bitterness is quickly overtaken by a firm and drying bitterness. More hops than malt here! Roasty with rich coffee tones. Sherbert carbonation. Medium mouthfeel. Astringent finish that’s a little too full on for me. A very interesting Black IPA that isn’t fully my thing but with bags of character. Evilkniamhel (955) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 16, 2016
Cask at Cloister’s Bar. Dark opaque brown with a creamy fawn head. Aromas of tropical fruit, sweet malts, coffee grind, dark chocolate, dried fruit. Full bodied and really nicely balanced on the palate, exactly what a Black IPA should be. AnchorTap (1) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 3, 2015 does not count
