Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Super smooth. Warming through the chestal cavity. Nice chocolate notes, with some mild wallet. A bit flat, but nice.

Bottle @ The Train Tasting, Pt II. The pour’s deep brown with a small off-white head. Big vanilla and toffee on the nose. Some rocky road fudge. The taste is bear claw donut. Quite sweet. More vanilla and toffee. Rich roasted nut provides a little balance. Earthy chocolate. Boozy finish. Full and rich. Overall, not bad stuff. Nowhere close to Brodies’ top-tier efforts, however.

chimpgibbon (555) - London, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - AUG 13, 2013
Bottle from Luvian’s. Meh... bit sad about this one. Had several top drawer Brodies recently inc the Big Mofo Mikkeller collab stout, and this isn’t in the same league. Maybe quite young still? Absolutely drinkable though, smooth and gentle for it’s abv. High carbonation - fizzy for style. No major standout characteristics though. Coffee, malts, very light booze. Decent stout.

Leighton (21256) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 6, 2013
Bottle during the High Speed Tasting Pt. II on the train back to London after the Black Country Bus Tour. Thanks to Jack. Pours clear, brown-black with a creamy, tan head. Burnt wood on the nose, some dried fruits. Medium sweet flavor with dry and burnt malts, some leather, bread, charred wood, dried cherries. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate sweetness to finish, some bitter cocoa, dried fruits, char, light alcohol warmth. Nice beer.

Bottle at Evening Star, Brighton. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is roasty, chocolate, earth, caramel, biscuit, wood and vanilla. The taste is mellow roast, cocoa, earth, coffee, wood, light alcohol, vanilla and toffee with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth, well-integrated flavour and rather drinkable.

Bottle from Beer Hive, Edinburgh [010813]
Black, thin tan head, some lacing
Aroma - Rich dark smooth roast, dark chocolate, smooth coffee, little woody, very smooth, alcohol well hidden
Taste - Smooth rich dark malts, soft mellow rich roast, deep dark chocolate, soft mellow coffee, very smooth, little woody, not really getting the bourbon, alcohol so well hidden, taste not that complex - all the flavours are revealed pretty quickly but it’s very nice
Palate - Very soft carb, medium body, oily, very smooth, soft sweet dark malts, not too sweet, very well balanced, body is a little thin though
Overall - This is so so smooth and so easy to drink at the abv, but got less complex with the drinking - but still a very good imperial stout

14th July 2013
Bottle. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Earthy coffee nose. Palate is smooth and fairly dry. Rich dry dark malt with lactose and earthy coffee. Surprisingly just a trace of bourbon. Light dry finish with an earthy bitter linger.
