BlackHaddock (7346) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - JUL 23, 2013
330ml Bottle Conditioned: poured into a Westmalle chalice at home on 23 July 2013. Looked very inviting: deep, dark black body with an impressive inch thick tanned foam head. The smokiness hits the nose and taste buds with an intense smack. Close your eyes and you could be in Bamberg: smoked ham esters fill your senses and thoughts. Really interesting and different, the Rye as well as yeast notes arrived as the beer warmed in the chalice, this is both complex and by far the best beer from Brodies I’ve had so far. Thanks to a London based American (Leighton) for gifting this bottle to me: hope he liked the exchange beers.

CloakedDagger (2498) - - JUL 12, 2013
Bottle 33 cl. Pours black with a vague reddish tint and a creamy, beige head leaving some lacework. Sweet roasty nose, quite some vanilla and aromatic hops. Rich body, sweet roast, candy like, bonbons and solid hops leaving quite a bitter finish. Rustic and well made. 120713

lusikka (7813) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 16, 2013
330 ml bottle.
Pours a pitch black colour with a large, off-white and foamy head. Aroma of roasted malts, smoked wood, berries and salty licorice. Flavour of roasted malts, grassy bitterness, ash, salty licorice, smoked wood, berries and pine needles. Medium bodied, high carbonation and a lingering bitter, roasty, salty finish. The amount of carbonation is a bit disturbing, but other than that a good beer.

Changed my mind, stuck with rye instead. Not sure of it’s the rye or the porter that gives it the smokey flavour. Napalm. Bosh.
