Bear Tooth Ale is an American Brown ale. It is light brown in color with a tan head and slight dry hop haze. More assertively hopped than many browns, its aroma is clean and citrusy with subtle malty sweetness. Its flavor is predominantly hop forward. At the start citrusy hop flavors blend with a dry, malty fullness. Malt flavors dominate the middle while a pleasant hop tingle lingers in the finish.

2008-09-06. Dark amber body with a small off white head. (3+) Mild aroma, light hops and a touch of alcohol. Flavour is hoppy with a malt base. Average palate. Pretty decent but unexceptional. Kind of surprised to see the high ratings for this one, I didn’t think much of it at the time. Perhaps it would have stuck out more on its own. On tap at the brewpub.

Draft at the brewpubs sister Bears Tooth Grill, Anchorage, 7/8/05: Dark muddy orange-red with virtually no head. Decent hop aroma; milky hop flavors and very orangey. Great.

Golden in color, clear with a thin head. Nice roast malt and light hops flavor. Easy drinking Ale. They say spruce in the flavor but this was very subtle.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a cloudy burnt orange to brown color with a fingers worth of off-white head. Decent messy lace. The aroma had a big blend of caramel to chocolate big and bold up front. Some brown sugar, dates and nuts follow in underneath. The flavor takes the previously mentioned aromas to boot in some bitter citrusy hops. Dry crisp malty to bitter aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Decent carbonation. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, good brown ale that is just good for what it is, but doesnt seem to lean towards an English or an American. It just is.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a translucent golden amber with an average bubbly white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, grapefruit, some toasted malts and sugary sweetness. Flavors were a mix of the same. Interesting take on a brown ale.

Draft at Mooses Tooth. Brown ale? Looks like a pale. Pale amber color with a small head. Aroma has caramel and the slightest hint of nuts. Flavor is meh, malty with mild citrus hops. Watery on the palate. Not good.
