[1683-20080906] Tap. Mild grain and mild chocolate aroma notes. Clear, dark red brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. More grainy chocolate malt in the flavour. Medium body. Nice brown.

2008-09-06. Very dark brown body with a small off-white head. Flavour is fruiter than I would expect from a brown ale (I am starting to suspect the house yeast?). Sweet malt base, very light roast malt. Aroma is similarly malt forward with a light roasty toasty malt, and hints of caramel. Average palate. Decent. On tap at the brewpub. Clear, dark ruby brown with ok head. The aroma is full, rich and malty. Actually a touch roasty. This could pass for a stout or robust porter in the flavor (although lighter than the best of those styles). The body is a little light, especially given the flavor.
