COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Poured the "motor oil" black with a 1 fingure tan head. Aroma fills the nose with almost a milk chocolate aroma and very mild roasted malts. The mouth has sweet chocolate up front followed by some alcohol heat, a little too much for 10% but maybe because it lacks some complexity of flavors in my opinion. It then follows with some nice bitter chocolate which lingers on the back of the palate for a while making you want to enjoy another sip. A solid winter stout.

10%ABV. Imperial stout. Sweet dark chocolate, plum jam, over ripe apricots and peaches, pear brandy. Pei pa koh (which is a very specific aroma note referencing the the black honey, loquat-based herbal remedy). Malty sweet funk. Mouthfeel is watered honey. Active carbonation. Palate has roasty flavors with charcoal, burnt toast. Hops are woody and briefly floral. Hint of pepper. Finish is boozy and smoky. Good. Full bodied with a slightly lingering bitter, sticky sweet finish.

On tap. Pours an opaque black with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and vanilla. Sweet flavour of chocolate malt, caramel, licorice, roast, salty toffee and warming booze in a dry, bitter coffee finish. Medium to full body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle from Beerdock Leek. 2017. Pours a black colour with a medium tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, some caramel, vanilla, a hint of liquorice and subtle dark fruits. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malts, some caramel, coffee, biscuit, slight vanilla , A hint of liquorice and subtle dark fruits. Full bodiedvand a soft carbonation. A dryish, biscuity and chocolatey bitterness in the finish. The alcohol is well hidden in this, some sweetness with a dark chocolate bitterness.

12oz bottle. Pour is jet black with very thin ring of light tan head. Almost none at all to be exact. Initially on the nose you get bakers chocolate, bitter rather than sweet. Typical roasted malt is accompanied by hints of vanilla and dried fruit. Very little carbonations leads to a silky, creamy mouth feel. 10% abv well integrated into the flavor profile. My bottle is at least 3 seasons old. Very nice sipper on this chilly night.
