COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Winter 02-03 Bottling Large, dense and creamy mocha colored head that lasted a good while; very good lacing. Strong, enticing dark chocolate aroma layered with a slightly smoky roastiness, some fruitiness and bit of a red wine-like acidity. Flavor upfront was moderately sweet and malty accompanied by a very present semi-sweet dark chocolate character. Mid-palate had some fruitiness with a slight acidity and a pleasingly subtle alcohol warmth that lasted into the finish. Wonderfully long lasting finish and aftertaste that was absent the usual sharpness of black malt/roasted barley. Instead it was reminiscent of toasted pastry crust, coffee, and burnt currant; all set off nicely by a mild bitterness. Palate was full bodied with a silky-velvety texture that was enhanced by a soft carbonation. Very smooth and quite easy drinking for and imperial stout. The complex finish is what really captivated me about this beer. This would go well with a nice Sachertorte or a dark chocolate-raspberry mousse cake. Thanks to DocLock for sending me TWO of these!

Smells roasty with distinct dark chocolate notes and slight booze. Looks magnificent - midnight black with a dense brown head. Taste follows the aroma with a welcome addition of oak and a hop bite in the aftertaste. Palate is not thick but it is smooth with more carbonation than expected but it works. This is good; reminds me of Bell's Expedition Stout. I'm throwing a few bottles in the cellar and I predict that they will age very well.

12floz bottle, winter 2017 edition, ~$1.75 unit price, pint glass. Appears nearly black in color and a small layer of head. Mmm...chocolatey, toasted graham cracker, and brown sugar are abundantly noted as aromas and flavors.Sweet on the tip and roasty in the finish, the palate is full and has bold character. I really enjoyed this a decade ago, and I do still today - which it has recently been made available to me locally.

From XXXII. In Tekuglass. Watching King Arthur. Very balanced taste, with chocolate and vanilla notes standing out. Alcohol provides a warming feeling but not an unpleasant sweetness.

For me this stout is underrated! Why people do not like it? It smells so much of chocolate, it is smooth and balanced, little bit sweet, and not hoppy. (is this the reason?) For me is one really good imperial stout, and easy to find! Little bit bitter, coffee...

The best stout I have ever tried! Out of this world! There is the chocolate flavor but it is just right not too overwhelming. Perfect carbonation not too much not too little. Perfect balance. The alcohol is very well hidden. Great finish! It does not get any better than this! It is a masterpiece! Enjoy!

Bottle, from Mr Foley’s, Leeds. Backlog entry. Entering my historic scores for US beers whilst visiting New York. No tasting notes kept, just rating. But very good.

Klasik. En ritkgt stor och riktigt söt dak. Rena efterrättsölet. Massor av kolakräm och laktos möter de chokladiga smakerna. Fantastiskt doft men väl söt att dricka, även i små klunkar men visst är det riktigt gott.
