COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say its vanishingly rare. We have no idea what theyre talking about.

750mL to wine glass Alcohol is the most prevalent aroma, followed by vanilla, and dark chocolate, cherries, and soy. Deep brown/black with a thin beige/brown head. Cherry, chocolate, vanilla taste and well balanced. Full bodied, thick with a warm finish. Good now, but it'll get better.

2013 bottle. Pours deep black, tan head. Aroma is bourbon, wood, robust malts, vanilla, rye. Flavor is woody barrel, champagne yeast, bourbon, sweet malt, light smoke and more woody alcohol. Medium bodied - for the style weirdly feels a bit thin - strong wood and zesty effervescent mouthfeel.

Opaque, no lace. Alcoholic nose. Full body, intense flavor, very hot but not well carbonated mouthfeel, average length. Sweetish, moderate bitterness, good acidity. Malty, strong alcohol flavor, coke. Good but excessively alcoholic in taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very interesting combo. Has a bready, oak, heavy booze scent. Nice dark black with reddish tones. Taste has a bit of anise, roots, bready. No carbonation, but there is an effervescence on the tongue. Bottle

Fresh. BQE Q4 2016 Pours a black/ opaque colour with a tan head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is rich with a sweet alcohol, chocolate, roasted malts and boozy esters of the champagne yeast. Flavor is a soft creamy chocolate with lightly bittered coffee and roasted malts. The overall impression is a well carbonated winelike stout. Sweet finish with a light bitterness and warming booze on the tail end.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 8/15/2016. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, toasted oak, vanilla, dark bread, almond, raisin, prune, fig, date, licorice, light char, and roast/oak earthiness. Touch of booziness appears as it warms. Damn nice complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, toasted oak, vanilla, dark bread, almond, raisin, prune, fig, date, licorice, light char, and roast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, toasted oak, vanilla, dark bread, almond, licorice, dark fruit, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish fora while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance, with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy, and fairly slick/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden, a mild warmth lingering after the finish; with minimal barrel booziness, Overall this is an outstanding barrel aged Russian imperial stout! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. This was fruitier on the yeast presence than I expected; but is still spot on for an English styled RIS, with plenty of deep roast and bourbon barrel presence with great balance. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle shared. Poured a clear dark brown with a short lived frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, boozy alcohol. The flavour is liquorice bitter light sweet with a rich roasty boozy alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.
