COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

750 ml. bottle. Served in a snifter. Pours the color of motor oil with a 1-finger head that quickly disappears. Cola and bourbon aroma. Medium mouthfeel. Strong oak flavor but with plenty of bourbon to balance it. Definite roasted malt presence, but I didn’t catch as much coffee as I’d expected. Instead, I noticed a hint of cherry. “Smooth” is an apt descriptor for Black Ops. It never bites, but it’s not flabby, either. It’s simply smooth from beginning to end. Happily, I’ve got another bottle of it in the fridge.

This beer is enormous. Pours jet black with a quickly dissipating head. The aroma is sweet, almost cloyingly so. Some tannic bitterness is prevalent as well. Oak aging is evident in the taste, some heat from the alcohol is apparent. Pretty good, worth a try

Very pleasant aroma and flavor. Not usually a stout fan but this won me over. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

If I had actually had this beer it would have been great. It has an interesting aroma of wine and bourbon, full bodied oily mouth feel with a distinctive bourbon taste. A light boozy bourbon finish.

Bkl 2016.bottle. Black, brown lace. Fine boozy roast and cocoa, tiramisu. Medium full mellow, light sparkly, cocoa roast, restrained barrel notes, dry roast and orange peel. Really well balanced and pleasant.

So, this was okay. I generally really enjoy imp stouts but the flavor on this just didn't live up to the billing. Glad I had a sample rather than shell out $20+ for this.

02.02.2018, 0,75l bottle (best before September 2017) sampled @ Bergen International Whisky & Beer Festival:
Nice light brown slightly bubbly-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and sweet, dark malts, dark sugar, oak, bourbon, caramel, hay, vanilla, booze, bark, cocoa, coffee. Taste is slightly dry boozy, weeds, oak, minerals, dark malts, bark, bourbon, hay, cocoa, harsh vanilla, fruit stones, burnt coffee. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly watery and harsh boozy mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Cask at Rattle n Hum West, NYC. Pours black, minimal beige head. Strong coffee nose, chocolate, strong bourbon character, warming, sweet, smooth. Low carbonation, almost flat. Medium bodied. Lacks body and thickness IMO.

on tap @ Party Town (Friday Night Flights) / Florence KY --- Aroma of burlap and malt. Opaque black, brown head that sinks to a heavy rim, bands of lace. Taste is lightly roasted malt that grows into an alcohol laced swallow. Bittering is already present, so all that's left is a long lingering finish. Good stuff.

On tap at Happy Gnome with Highendtully. Stupid bowling pin glass. Pitch black with minimal head. Aroma is chocolatey and even more chocolate. Taste follows suit with deep rich chocolate taking center stage. A hint of whiskey peat bringing an alcohol punch. A little one dimensional but vanilla comes into play towards the end. An interesting rendition of a chocolate stout but not quite as a good as I wanted.
