Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

750 ml. bottle. Served in a snifter. Pours the color of motor oil with a 1-finger head that quickly disappears. Cola and bourbon aroma. Medium mouthfeel. Strong oak flavor but with plenty of bourbon to balance it. Definite roasted malt presence, but I didn’t catch as much coffee as I’d expected. Instead, I noticed a hint of cherry. “Smooth” is an apt descriptor for Black Ops. It never bites, but it’s not flabby, either. It’s simply smooth from beginning to end. Happily, I’ve got another bottle of it in the fridge.

Bottle picked up from Wine Rack at Yarnton Nurseries, Yarnton, Oxon, consumed at Lighthouse Keepers Cottages, Lynton, Devon Friday 1st December 2017 shared with Baz, Dom and Loz Pours dark brown with a light tan head. A very nice uncomplicated Barrel Aged Imperial Stout and quite the contrast from the Founders Lizard of Koz, the barrel ageing is really pleasant. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.9

Poured pretty much pitch black in color with a thin brown head.
Lots of dark chocolate notes, barrel notes, massive roastedness.
Coffee in flavor, roastedness, dark chocolate and some oaky thing.
Full bodied, heavy, sweet and quite complex with layers of flavors.
Slow sipper.

2016 bottle. Mahogany colored beer with a short lived beige head. Big alcohol nose. Lots of thin boutbon flavors, milk chocolate and alcohol. Seems dominated by the bourbon barrel.

Stoned99 (1684) - St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 6, 2017
750ml bottle, Q4 2015. Molasses, candied fruits, licorice, raisin, alcohol. App: dark brown, big moka head with no retention. Taste and palate: medium body, liquoreux a bit tasteless for some reason, maybe a bit of chocolate, light acidity finish. Overall: hum. Not too sure. Seems to lack depth which is surprising for a 11.6 abv imperial stout. Seriously boring. Can't believe I paid that much for that bottle.

PotjeBier (3768) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - SEP 29, 2017
Sampled from bottle at Foeder's bottleshare 28 September 2017. Black color. Beige head, quickly receding. Aroma's are sweetish, red fruit, light vanilla. Retronasal it's whiskey, fruit, alcohol. Flavor is moderate sweet, very fruity, champagne-like. Strong alcohol feel. Under medium bodied. Long finish, light dry, roasty, light bitter. Not too impressed to be honest.

Explosive bourbon aroma enriched by chocolate nose. Taste: mix of dark chocolate, dried fruits, coffee. Warming aftertaste with strong woody bourbons trail ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hopmaestro (1773) - Örebro, SWEDEN - SEP 18, 2017
Aroma has hard roasted malts, chocolate, wood and bourbon. Taste is big chocolates and also carries some raisins. Licorice and vague roasted nuts. Warming alcohol. Solid as a rock, but maybe not over the top these days. If you do like more classical Imp's, you should most definitely choose this one.
