COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Pours a hazy orange/amber with a medium lt tan head. Aroma has earthy/spicy hops, a touch of pine, and toffee...a bit of a vomit scent in there. Flavor has sweet toffee notes, caramel, tea, earthy/spicy hops, and a touch of resin or pine. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is earthy and bitter.

From bottle. Amber gold, very clear color. Tee head fades away quite fast, stays only thin layer and white ring foam around the glass. Clear but strong nose with citrus, orange peel, herbal and hoppy notes. Taste is lightly hoppy with orange peel and grapefruit notes. More than medium length aftertaste with hoppy bitterness and some citrus notes. Very nice everyday IPA.

Bottle at home, 18/02/17 ... had this a few times over the years ... finally catching up to rate it! Clear golden with a well appointed off white head. Nose is caramel, grains, malt forward, biscuit, vanilla, lgiht citric peel, hoppy notes. Taste comprises sweet malts, biscuit crumble, custard, caramel, toasted brioche, light orange peel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close dashed with hop bitterness. Historical recreation or not ... this is not what I want from an IPA in 2017. Drinks Ok if a touch sweet but I doubt Ill ever head back here!

From a bottle. Decent example of style, lots of citrus and pine flavours but not a crazy hop bomb.

Pours a clean amber, full eggshell white head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange sherbet, melon. Medium bodied with a nice creaminess on the back end. Decent taste, bready citrus malts, everything was a bit subdued but its crushable.

Bottle. Deep Gold in colour. Hoppy; piney resinous and spicy (peppery) hops. Fruity; citrus grapefruit, lemongrass. Malty; pale malts, caramel, toffee. Nice hop/fruit/malt balance. Nice resinous hop bite over sweet malts. (Intentionally), not as aggressive as many American IPAs. Very dry lingering finish. Very drinkable. (2010-08)
