Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

12 oz can. Another of my "I havent rated this yet???" beers. Golden brown with a huge off white head that disintegrates rockily. Rather hoppy nose - citrus and grass, sweet malt. Light to medium bodied, the sweet maltiness comes through in the flavor, well balanced by floral and grass flavors. Some dry bread notes. Very flavorful, damn pleasant.

355mL bottle: Clear amber body with one finger tan head and that distinctive cask-conditionned effervescence. Aroma of sweet roasted malts and floral hops. Flavor is rich, robust with peppery notes, resembling ale more than lager. Well rounded, bitter dry finish. Whomever enacted the prohibition obviously never had a Brooklyn Lager!

Had this on tap. Pours a medium brown without much of a head. The aromas are hoppy, with a bit of malt. Taste is pretty hoppy and bitter, but with a pretty light and watery body. A pretty basic beer, but better than most other basic beers. Has average or slightly below average qualities in every area. Drinkable and consistent, but Ill only get it if the only other things available are other crappy american lagers.

12 ounce bottle from my SS summer 07
Crystal clear copper with a lasting off white head.
An overwhelming perfumey hop aroma with a scant amout of malt.
The hop flavor in the beer is just not really what I was looking for. I wish it was a bit closer to neutral. Again, it comes off as perfume for flower petals, with toasted malt in the trail position. Strong bitter finish.
Medium body with active carbonation. and a dry finish.
Cartainly a better option than a lot of beers, but not something I really like to have again.

Bottle. What the aromas in this beer lack in complexity it makes up for in balance. Malts have a moderate roasted smell, hops smell of pine and herbs, and a light earth smell for the yeast, with brown sugar and a very light note of apple. Head is creamy/fizzy white with no lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is a clear amber/tan. Flavor starts moderately acidic and finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, dry/watery with a lively carbonation. Nothing fancy, just a good drinking beer.

Pours an decent amber with slight foamy head. Nose of dry hops, some malt backbone. Palate mostly the same, finishes clean but a little more solid on the malt profile than most lagers. Nothing amazing, but good enough.

Certainly has its own flavor and hoppiness. Acceptable, but leaves me wanting something. I couldnt see this as my regular beer.

Rated while drinking: Pours a dull golden-orange color with a majestic off-white head. Big head. Smells of fruity hops and almost something spicy; maybe pepper. Great balance of malts and hops in the flavor, backed up by more hops near the swallow. Tasty! Smooth and crisp on the palate; makes you want more. Solid flagship beer for Brooklyn. Could drink this everyday with every meal.
