COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Always different, every bottle. Although always amazing. Lets see... 2007 bottle, 12 oz, served in Duval glass: -Pours a dark orange/brown, yet tending to ruby/blood through light. Murky as hell, actual chunks of awesome swirling around throughout. White to tan one finger head sticking around for a bit and dissipating to solid lacing in thick lines. Aroma straight up of alcohol and bright fruit, typical barleywine maltiness and pink candy. No hop at all, all sweet. Hardcore deep caramel and cotton candy on the tongue, tang and warmth from alcohol, medicine and cheap fruit candy. Plastic, aged chunks of malt. Dominant is the sweet adult candy, and in the back is frothy weak hop, almost a memory. Medium to heavy body and mouthfeel, oily as hell, lubing up your mouth for a night of straight action. This beer is a personality all its own. It is telling you a story. Listen.

355ml bottle. The beer starts a bit sticky. Deep with an intense fresh fruity layer below. Dry sugars, hints of roast, smooth and mild. Low bitterness with caramelly hints. Sugary sweetish without being too sticky. Very nice and round.

***2007 VINTAGE*** Appearance: Apple cider in color but much clearer though (think amber). No head or lacing at all which is a bit disappointing. Smell: Very good aroma of malt & caramel with some dried fruit thrown in there for good measure. Earthy & boozy. Taste: A bit of a letdown compared to the aroma though it gets a bit better as it warms but not too much. Burnt sugar, caramel & leather with spicy overtones that prickle the tongue. Good but not great. Mouthfeel: Smooth with a fair amount of carbonation, more than i expected but calms a bit more as it warms. Feels pretty comfortable. Reviewed on: 03-26-2009

Min sista flaska från nu mera nedlagda butiken Barley Wine i Köpenhamn. 2009 vintage. Mer abt än bw i min bok. Trevligt madeiriserad och komplex smakbild men fortfarande med rejäl kraft och alkoholvärme. Torkad frukt, kola, fudge, sötlakrits, madeira, rom russin, lite läder, vanilj. Riktigt gott.

On draft at HopCat. The pour is a lighter golden orange with a thin ring of light tan head and a couple spots of soapy lace. The aroma is bitter and fruity. There isn’t any caramel or malty sweetness. It’s bitter and dank with a light fruitiness. Not the best. The flavor is much of the same. Heavy bitterness and light hop. The sweetness is just long gone. The mouth feel is thin and light with a lingeringly bitter hop finish. This isn’t anything like what I want in a barleywine. Fuck.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a cup. Opaque burnt orange with small off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, a little carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt and some herbal hops for balance.

October 9, 2016. Bottle at home.
Clear deep ruby red with a small off- white head. Aroma is sweet malty and fruity with toffee, brown sugar, plum, prunes, raisins, some vanilla, port, some nutty notes. Taste is sweet, light vinous and light bitter. Finish is slightly warming, sweet toffee notes, prunes, plum, lingering bitterness with a dry grassy and piney note. Medium to full bodied, somewhat creamy texture, soft small bubble carbonation.
Nice, would prefer less lingering bitterness but in the other hand that balance the sweetness and make it quite easy drinkable.
