Try the new Brewmasters Reserve: Smoked Weissbock. Bamberg, the central town in the Franconia region of northern Bavaria, is home to one of the world’s most unique beer styles – smoked beer or “rauchbier”. The barley malt is dried over beechwood fires, taking on a smoky quality that infuses the beer brewed from it. Smoked lagers are common in Franconia, but there’s a further specialty as well – smoked wheat beer. Only the barley malt is smoked, while the wheat is malted normally. This gives the beer a lightly smoky quality which is a perfect complement to the fruitiness imparted by the weissbier yeast. These beers have inspired us to bring you something more special still – Brooklyn Smoked Weissbock. At the doppelbock strength of 8%, this beer is full-bodied and complex, retaining the light acidity of the wheat balanced against fruit. Underneath is the light beechwood smoke, making this a wonderful beer with to enjoy with food. The palate finishes dry and spritzy. Try it with any pork dish (especially barbecue), traditional Mexican dishes, robust seafood such as monkfish, and Chinese dishes featuring black bean sauce. Malt: German two row smoked barley malt, German wheat malt, Belgian aromatic malts, caramalt. Hops: German Perle ABV: 8%

Copenhagen beerfestival 2007. Light smoked banana aroma. Cloudy red amber, creamy golden brown head. Fairly light fruity base. Banana, light smoke, oranges. Refreshing.

(tap at Eli Cannon’s in Middletown CT, served in beautiful complimentary Brooklyn stemware, 8%)

aroma has all the wonderful banana clove bubblegum esters of the hefeweizen yeast but also complementary and rich beechwood-smokey complexity.

very flavorful, all the maltiness and fruity-^alchl-complexity of the weissbock accentuated by a nice smokeyness and earthy-hops, works wonderful together as all flavors build off each other rather than vying for dominance. I wanted several of these, nothing negative to say at all.

Taken from notes: Sample from a growler. Pours a hazy light brown color with a small off white head. The aroma shows some caramel malt and a light smokiness. The flavor has moderate sweetness, caramel, a light smoked quality, and some banana. This was a pleasant surprise on the day. The smoked sensation did not dominate.

Mar. 2007 - Growler from State Line Liquors. Beer poured murky caramel brown, very little head and no lacing. Weak aroma of caramel and wheat with some smokiness. Flavor was banana sweet, caramel with an imperceptible smokiness. Very carbonated mouthfeel, a bit too much so. I was kinda hoping for more smokiness, which was more present in the aroma than the flavor. Okay, but not great.

Comments: A fun brew, quality-brewed as was expected, but perhaps overly polite with its smokiness and a bit exaggerating on banana and caramelly sweetness.

(on bottle) Head like whiped cream, hazy, amber. No trace of smoke in the nose and neither in the taste of bannan and cream. Somewhere in that sweet finish I can thought it was smoke, sorry.

Draft at the Blind Tiger with golubj; aroma of banana/bubble gum, brown sugar, caramel and smoke. Flavor was similar and very good. Very enjoyable beer overall.

Draft at the Blind Tiger. Aroma mostly of bubble gum, some dark fruit, sugar, toffee, and a little bit of smoky malt. The flavor is quite similar, dominated by the bubble gum and sugar. There is an initial fruitiness that I can’t quite identify. Good beer overall.

Foggy, deep amber appearance with a tiny off white head and little lacing. Yeasty, spicy, smokey aroma complimented by fruity banana esters. Taste was initially fruity, respectably spiced, layered with sweet, malty, wheaty flavors and a lingering smokiness. The smokiness was a little more pronounced in the aftertaste but gentler than most rauchbiers. Smooth, medium-to-full bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a medium length, slightly cloying finish.
