We brew Brooklyn Winter Ale from heirloom Maris Otter malts to create a beer with roots in blustery Scotland. Brooklyn Winter Ale is richly malty, aromatic, full-bodied and perfect with stews, roasts and holiday dishes.

Bottle at ChrisO Snow Tasting, thanks to FatPhil. It pours clear deep red-brown with a medium off-white head. The nose is caramel, wood, candy, leather, berry and some spice. The taste is caramel, wood, dark fruit, tangy berry, metal, brown bread and spice with a dry finish. Light-medium body and moderate carbonation. Straightforward and easy drinking.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a small frothy with a small frothy white head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is a sweet fruit with bready malt. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet caramel with light malt and a nice spicy finish. Easy to drink, a great winter brew. FINALLY a scottish ale under my belt!!

Bottle from River Bend. Clear brown color with a large rocky off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Good caramel tawny port aroma. Medium body with light syrupy texture. Full heavy sweet flavor with a sweet spicy finish of moderate duration. Very enjoyable brew.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2008 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours a dark red, clear, with a one finger head. Low retention and decent lacing. Very earthy aroma with some nutty dark fruit notes. Taste is caramel, nuts, stone fruits, raisins. Medium bodied.

Bottle purchased at Vulcan Beverages, Birmingham, AL. Pours sparkling dark brown with an average creamy light brown head, mostly lasting, good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, cookie), light hops (herbs), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of butterscotch, honey and apple. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation and a creamy finish. Moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness; sweet roasted caramel malt flavor.

This brew is a mostly clear deep mahogany color with a medium and creamy off-white head that dissipates slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel and fruit. Medium body with flavors of malt, brown sugar and caramel, plus some soft fruit. The finish is malty with a hint of hops and spice aftertaste. Decent overall.
