The first batch of our blackberry saison is out for distribution - dog ate my homework, 7% alc/vol with approximately 1lb of fruit per liter. Why Blackberries? Blackberries have a wonderful sweetness that is not TOO sweet or full. They are rich in color and aroma and have a unique drying charcter that is felt across the whole pallet. I am not a fan of sweet beers, so it was important to me that this beer have lots of deep blackberry fruit and a deep respect for the saisons dry palate.

Draft at Old Devil Moon. Reddish purple cloudy color with a lasting pink head. Nice blackberry aroma, some Belgian notes. Medium sweet flavor, nice fruit notes, some Belgian yeast. Medium bodied, well carbonated. Good for a fruit beer.

[Tap] Darker brown color with a distinct purple hue to it. Light pink head on top. Blackberry, dark fruits and some tart fruit juice notes in the aroma. More blackberry, cranberry, pomegranate and jam in the taste. Dry and mildly tart finish. Tasting notes from 9/2014.

Tasted at the Triple Rock Sour and Barrel Aged Fest on 2/10/2013. This fruit beer pours a slightly reddish color. Small to medium sized pinkish head. The aroma is black raspberry fruity and sweet. A medium bodied fruit beer. The malts are fruity and sweet, some sweet raspberry. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation Nicely balanced. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

(bottle) Rust color pour with a medium beige head with pink tinges that retains pretty well. Aroma right away holds a good dose of blackberry that alternates between real and artificial smelling. I think this may be due to the estery and slightly spicy saison yeast flashing in-between the solid blackberry aroma. It sometimes smells like a blackberry popsicle stick. Good amount of bubblegum here too, which makes this smell like grape Bubbalicious. Theres a good amount of must in here too. Not much else to describe beyond these few things. The flavor is really impressive, as its a full blast of fresh blackberry that leaves a nice crisp tartness towards the finish. Not much in the way of a saison character here, besides a slight breadiness on the finish, although I cant complain, because that fresh blackberry is so prominent. Finish is indeed dry. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is fairly lively.

"Ddint get any saison in this save for a barely dry finish, but it was a decent if not impressive blackberry ale. Efervescent, slightly sweet and dry with just a hint of twang. Refreshing finish."

Beautiful light purple color. Some gentle fruit aroma. Fairly dry, not very sweet, thankfully. A tart fruit quality. Finishes clean and dry, without any cloying character. Fairly light body, effervescent, refreshing.

Deep dark ruby and violet coloured body with a rich, four centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of blackberries, icing sugar, raspberries, figs, yeast and a lot of alcohol noticeable, along with bitterness. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt flavours up front with a lot of fruit noticeable as well, from strawberries to blueberries and definitely both - blackberries and raspberries. Aftertaste shows a good balance with much more of a european and fruity kick than a malty presence. Overall, an interesting beer with a ton of flavour and a full-finished sweet beer with a lot of nuances from other styles. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 25-April-2014 for US$8,00 sampled at home in Washington on 04-August-2014.

500ml bottle via trade. Pours a very murky deep red with a large light pink head. Aromas of Belgian yeast esters, some fruit. Taste is dry and lightly sour. High carbonation. Flavors of raspberry jam, white pepper, some clove. They claim this is a saison with a fruit addition, and that is exactly what it tastes like. Not a fruit beer at all in my opinion. Finishes pretty dry but with a hint of subtle raspberry jam. Nice, probably the best fruit beer Ive ever had, and I hate fruit beers.

500ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep purple with a pinkish/purplish head. Aroma of blackberries, some dryness, hints of tartness, and light malts. The flavor isnt very balanced and the berries dont mesh well with the beer. Average texture. Could be better - like Almanacs blackberry beer.
