Wooooow, no words to describe this beer. The looks are already blowing my mind. The color of the beer is pitch and pitch black. With a strong light behind it a little ruby red glow is revealed at the sides of the beer. I can’t look trough the beer whatsoever. It is truly a dark beer. I knew a black coffee IPA is black, but this black...I didn’t think about this. The beer pours an adequate amount of almond colored foam. The bulk of the foam collapses, but a nice drape of foam remains on top of the beer. After my amazement of the looks has calmed down a little, I can start amazing about the smell and taste. The smell is one of the most special smells I’ve ever smelled. The aromas are amazing. The most prominent aromas are that of a tremendous dark, bitter and strong black coffee. I smell some delicious smokey roasted aromas, there are also delicate aromas of licorice, some sweet alcohol aromas. The smell is very very bitter and yet has some sweet fruity notes to it. In the distance there are some bittersweet aromas of chocolate. The name of the beer fits the dark and bitter aromas very good. The looks and smell are more like a stout than an IPA. It is the delicate fresh fruity hope note in the distance that has something of an IPA, but if it was sold as a stout I would believe it to. The same goes for the taste. God, is it bitter. I have the idea I am drinking a strong pot of coffee, while sipping from a pint’o stout and eating some chocolate truffles. The enormously bitter, dark roasted coffee flavor is the first thing that really kicks you in the tears of you can’t stand up to it. If you are no in to bitter beers, you’re gonna have a bad time, because it is bitter. After the dark coffee tones, some milder, but still bitter notes of chocolate truffles are unveiled. This flavors are very soft to the mouth, especially when compared to the tinglyness of the bitter coffee flavors. After the chocolate flavors have past, the IPA compartment of the beer is opened. A delicious fresh and fruity, yet dark and toasty hop flavor fills the mouth. I’ve never tasted anything like this. The way the different flavors flow over into each other and the dark toasted but fruity hop flavors. This finish is a gentle blend between al the good aspects of the taste, with a predominant bitter flavor. The beer has just the perfect amount of carboxylation to propel al the aromas and to accentuate the different flavors, without becoming to dominant. This beer is one of the best beers I’ve ever had. It was expensive (5 euros for a 33cc bottle), but it was worth every last cent of it. It’s a pitty this was a limited batch. I wish I could drink a beer like this every day. Schön würzig mit einem netten Einschlag von Hopfen, Kaffee und Schoko. Einfach zu trinken, leicht mit Beeren versetzt und erdig. Wunderbar simpel und dabei in der Komplexität ausgewogen. McTapps (6957) - Reutlingen, GERMANY - MAR 21, 2016

[ As Kompaan Black Coffee IPA ].
Clear dark black brown color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, coffee, dusty, moderate hoppy, citrus. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, hop and coffee bitter, chocolate. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
Mooie zwarte kleur met een goede kraag. Ruukt fruitig, koffie, beetje porterachtig. Smaakt koffie, beetje fruitig, bitter, vanille. Lekker. langeveld12 (580) - NETHERLANDS - JAN 12, 2016
First black coffee IPA. Combines the good of both. The shift from sweet fruits and citrus fruits in the beginning to bitter coffee in the finish is subtle. Not very complex but very tasteful anyway.

0,33l bottle at home. BB 01. Feb 2016. almost black color, small coffee-colored head. nice coffee smell, some roast, earthy notes, some citric notes, grass & herbs, bitter chocolate, cacao powder, creamy. very nice smell. medium to full body, soft carbonation, slick almost creamy mouthfeel. tastes of coffee, earthy, light sour note, some bitter chocolate, grass, spices / light vegetables, light roast notes. finishes with nice roast notes a light bitterness and notes of coffee, light chocolate and some earthy notes. very nice beer, taste has a light astringency which could be either from the coffee or an issue of freshness. Distraction is very mild though, overall still a great beer. sjogro (4653) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - DEC 14, 2015
Week van het Nederlandse Bier 2015. Dikke stroperige koffie met brandnetel bitter hopje aan het eind. Niet makkelijk, twee lekkere smaken die elkaar te lijf gaan en ontkrachten. Backlog from 2015/05/28.
