In brewing, BBL is the notation for “barrel,” a unit of measurement equal to 31 gallons. This is not to be confused with an oak barrel, which typically holds nearly two BBLs of beer. Still with us? Great. Blue BBLs, then, is a special blend of our bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with our bourbon barrel-aged sour stout, plus an addition of juicy blueberries, which imparts vinous tones. The acidity from the sour stout seamlessly balances the sweet malt character of the imperial stout, and the tannins from the berries amplify the fruity character, altogether exhibiting notes of red wine, blueberry skins, rich toffee, roast and singed oak.
30% Sour Stout and 70% Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels with blueberries added

750 ml bottle sampled at a local tasting. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have chocolate, tart berries, vinous character, dark caramel, wood, blueberry skins, interesting beer but too much for large amounts.

MEH, Its too vinegar tart, blue but no fruit flavors. I am not sure why this brewery is so popular.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 1/18/2016. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger foamy tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge tart blueberry, cherry, red wine, plum, raisin, chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, light vinegar/funk, and yeast/roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, blueberries, a light fruity/funky yeast notes; with great strength. A bit of alcohol booze appears as it warms. Taste of huge tart blueberry, cherry, red wine, plum, raisin, chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, light vinegar/funk, and yeast/roast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/acidic tartness, tannic oak spiciness, and light roasted bitterness; with lingering notes of blueberry, dark fruit, red wine, chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, and yeast/roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, blueberries, a light fruity/funky yeast flavors; with a great malt/tannic/tartness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Lightly drying from acidic/tannic notes as well. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a smooth, creamy/slick, and lightly silky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with moderate warming and minimal booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged/fruited sour imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, blueberries, a light fruity/funky yeast flavors; and dangerously smooth to sip on for the enormous ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Dark black with purple tint... Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, Black Tuesday, berries... Flavor is almost cloyingly sweet, berries, chocolate, bourbon... Finish is super sweet, hint of dark chocolate and bourbon on palate... Decent, a little too sweet ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2015 bottle - BT type pour with a head that doesn’t last. Fruity BT nose with sweet malt, vanilla, barrel. Taste follows the nose. Slightly tart but how I would imagine a blueberry variant of BCS would taste. I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to.

Bottle shared at tasting, thanks! Near black with a small ring tan head. Aroma of tart red fruits, blueberries, bourbon, vanilla, oak, chocolate, caramel and toffee. Flavour is heavy sweet and light to moderate sour. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. No head. Clear black pour. The blueberry mixes nicely with the imperial stout. Easy drinking despite the high ABV
