In brewing, BBL is the notation for “barrel,” a unit of measurement equal to 31 gallons. This is not to be confused with an oak barrel, which typically holds nearly two BBLs of beer. Still with us? Great. Blue BBLs, then, is a special blend of our bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with our bourbon barrel-aged sour stout, plus an addition of juicy blueberries, which imparts vinous tones. The acidity from the sour stout seamlessly balances the sweet malt character of the imperial stout, and the tannins from the berries amplify the fruity character, altogether exhibiting notes of red wine, blueberry skins, rich toffee, roast and singed oak.
30% Sour Stout and 70% Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels with blueberries added

Taster at the bruery. Bourbon and oak aroma, quite sweet, little bitterness, finishes with just a little tartness and some blueberry aroma. Quite unique - interesting. Very good.

750mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is very strange, with a mix of blueberries, some tartness, some vanilla sweetness and roast. Flavour is really nicely constructed, with blueberries, counteracting any tartness, with some miscellaneous sweetness. The booze isn’t that apparent for 16%. Really nice diabetes bomb from The Bruery.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has lots of blueberries, chocolate, roast and bourbon. It has a medium / full smooth body with low amount of soft carbonation. The flavor starts with booze, blueberries, heavy roast and spices. The finish packs a bit of alcohol heat.

Bottle:   This one reminds me of a Blueberry and Blackberry pie that has a kick to it.   Not as sour as I was thinking, and I am not a big fan of Sour Stouts, but this one is just a slight bit tart.   Rather sweet tho, which counters any sort of tartness.   Really digging this one.   Really coming across as a sweet and tart Blueberry and Blackberry pie.   A bit warming, but otherwise very welcomed.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Finishes very jammy, with a soft alcohol kick.   Did I mention how much I enjoyed this?   Very much less of a Stout, or a Sour Stout.   Just seems like a very warming berry pie.   Great dessert beer.   Much thanks Rob!

From notes. Enjoyed on September 19 at Travis’ house. 750 mL bottle shared by me. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite, combined styles: the sour stout. The pour on this one is a dark black with a thin ring of darker head. The aroma is just great. There is a nice roast that starts it out, but it moves into being taken over by the blueberry. There amazing. Light tartness. Great blueberry offers a nice light fruitiness and the skins offer a wonderful tart sharpness to it. There is a goos addition of dark fruits and light roast, maybe even a little chocolate and vanilla contrast, but the bluevberries are definitely the show stealer. The flavors are just as great. The blueberry is bright and vibrant with a great tart sharpness. The stout rings through with the roast chocolateyness, a light vanilla, and just a little touch of bourbon. The mouth feel is great. Thick and viscous with just enough soft carbonation to help it remain thick, but not overly lingering to let the sour aspect keep it quick and tart. The aftertaste is lingeringly blueberry skins and chocolate bourbon heat. I love this.

bottle shared by a friend. poured a dark black colour with some tanned bubbles on top. imo this is def. more a stout than a sour/wild ale. nose if filled with sweet deep blueberries, raspberries, and dark roasted malt notes. followed by deep sweet chocolate, raisins, and sweet strong bourbon like all other bourbon bruery beers. slight tartness in the aftertaste. but much more BT flavors. sticky syrup. and slight lactic note. I have no idea if this used to be more tart when it came out. but the BT stout is very forward. with a strong bourbon heat, vanilla and oak. the blueberries adds a very great balance to the beer. wasn’t expecting this. but it was very enjoyable!

Battle share, thanks to Darrel. Relatively smooth brew, despite the super high ABV. Gentle warmth, not burn, and the berries are still very much in evidence even with all of the stoutness and sourness going on. Very complex, very dark, very tasty, well worth the effort.

750 ml bottle from the Hoarder Society. Pitch black without any type of head. Aroma is Berry forward with chocolate and strong notes of bourbon.

The flavor is like a blend of Black Tuesday, Mélange 3 and a nice amount of blueberries found in the finish. Wow I was not expecting the blueberry to be this lasting after the sip. Nice lasting warmth from from alcohol after the sip yet, for the 15 % ABV not overly hot. Very approachable for the ABV but it will let you know it is here. Very mild tartness with a smoother carbonation level. Damn this is nice.
