Woodish aroma and muted plum with new leather. Black, only dark brown on the edges. Sharply sour, spent coffee and became waxy with each sip. Not good.

Colour... dark garnet with no head. Nose... yeasty and fruity. Palate... oh my! This an affront to my palate! Metallic with notes of loam and sand, which may make this one sound chewy, but on the contrary, this beer is quite thin and watery. Blech!

He pours with a huge khaki head which eventually fades into a velveteen layer of espresso mousse. A few swirls and he rises once more to the occasion before fading into a mousse-like layer of bliss. The nose is musty with old bread bursting forth in dominant form. Wheat, pumpernickel, and rye are thick, heavy, and heavily tainted with must. Im not sure if this is a good thing or bad, but I am about to find out. One more whiff of earth damp with rain and I take the first of many interesting sips. Musty front, center, and back, he ekes of old wood, leather, and earth. Like a lump, his palate sits there listless with nary an interest in stimulating my tastebuds. Very little finish or spice profile to speak of. A few more sips reveal musty pumpernickel and rye breads with sour grapes puckering his underbelly. Odd is about the only way I can think of describing the The Black from Brugge Brewery.

He wasnt a drainpour, and I wouldnt classify him as a bad beer. Having tasted a good portion of his black beery depths which lacked any stimulation whatsoever, odd is the only impression I am left with before moving on.

Black, as one might expect, with a big but quickly dissipating head. Roasted almond aroma. Nicely crisp, with a note of coffee, burnt toast and red wine. Not bad.

(draught at brewpub) clear medium brown with a lasting creamy head. Nose of Belgian yeast, cherry syrup, cream and light stone fruits. Taste of cherries (artificial), prunes, and cream. Medium body slightly undercarbonated. Not too interesting but not bad.

aroma is big mollasses and roasted malt. heavy sweetness with immediate caramelized pit fruits and prune juice. appearance is opaque with fine head that retains, hint of lacing. flavor is intense orange and general spice, surprising given black pour and aroma. orange lingers with vanilla to boot. super carbonated palate. some red wine/tannin notes and lack of java/cocoa in any real amounts. i dont believe ive ever leveled such an accusation at a beer before but this is truly under attenuated, after most of this bomber the sweetness assault is starting to wear on me. still excellent and certainly drinkable but -.1 pts.

On draught at the brewpub. Served in a snifter. The beer pours opaque black with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruit, molasses and citrus. Medium body with flavors of tart fruit, roasted malt, yeast and alcohol. The finish is dark fruit and sweet spices and leaves behind a citrusy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle from a trade with StFun. Pours black with a huge tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Flavor is somewhat musty malts with chocolate, coffee and molasses. Medium body with lively carbonation. Thanks Josh.
