On tap at Olstofa in Akureyri. Pours a muddy amber brown with lots of creamy, lacing, off white head. Nose has mild grist, some nuts, some brown sugar, some caramel. Pours deep red-brown with a fine, staying, frothy, off-white head. Aroma is sweet, lots of toasted caramel, lightly roasted, some metallic notes (quite charcoal-like). Medium carbonation, a tad on the thin side. Flavour is rather sugary sweet. Light toasted, some roasted notes and a fair, grainy, earthy bitterness in the finish. Okay.
UPDATED: APR 8, 2013 draft at 73 Restaurant and Cafe This was called Kaldi dark by Johanna the bartender. The beer poured a deep dark amber but not opaque with a nice beige head. This is a very balanced beer with a sweet aroma of caramel malts and so is the flavor. The beer also had an acidic side almost like cider mash. The carbonation was average for the medium body beer. Keg in the Kaldi Café, Reykjavik. Mahogany with a thin beige head. Not much aroma. The taste is light coffee and nut. Some choclate too. Creamy mouthfeel. OK.
