COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered. Keg.
Brugse Zot Dubbel is a dark brown beer, inclining towards ruby red. It is brewed with six special varieties of malt, which give the beer a rich and distrinctive aroma. One can discover the scent of honey, almonds, chocolate and brown sugar. By using the Czech Saaz hop from Zatec, the beer has a complex palate of roasted malts and a distrinctive flavour. Brugse Zot Dubbel is known to leave a warm glow in the mouth with a bitter and hoppy finish, leaning towards liquorice and coffee roast. Bottle conditioned.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, sugar, Saaz hops, yeast.

Had at De Halve Maan in Brugge. Not a bad dubel but like its the other Zot not a super great example. Lacks a certain something. Serving: Tap

Murky brown color with fluffy beige head. Aroma has the classic belgian yeast profile you are used to from other classic abbey ales. Some brown sugar and toasted malts as well. Taste starts with some dried fruits and brown sugar, continues with yeast flavors and finishes quite balanced. Medium to light bodied with medium carbonation. A classic dubbel, not special in any way.

Appearance: opaque amber-brown with two fingers of loose light beige head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, moderate lacing. (3/5) Aroma: dark dried fruit, toasted bread, nutty, earthy. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry warming and lingering bitter finish. (4/5) A decent, if somewhat unimaginative, Dubbel. Pleasant dried fruit and toasty malt flavours dominate over mild earthy hops. However, this is a very competitive style, dominated by some of the greatest beers in the world (Westmalle, Westvleteren 8, Maredsous 8 and Rochefort 6, just to name some of the best Ive had), so this suffers somewhat by comparison. OK, but not worth making a special effort to locate. (14/20)

Lore (2286) - Budapest, HUNGARY - OCT 21, 2016
cloudy brown colour, large, dense beige hed, which lasts for several minutes; aroma of intensive dried cherry, plum jam with some biscuit and caramel notes; taste of dried cherry, plum jam with burnt notes, hints of chocolate and toast; good - though I cannot be objective in the case of this beer: this was one of my first real beers tasted in Brugge at the brevery several years ago during my honeymoon :-)

Unfiltered version on tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy brown on tap with fluffy tan head that dissipates slowly to leave great lace. Aroma and taste of mild caramel malt sweetness, a hint of roast and earth, a bit nutty, overlying Belgian yeast. Decent dubbel, theyre definitely better over here.

Bottle. Dark brown with light beige head. Aroma of dark bread, caramel, candi sugar, dried fruits. In taste lightly sweet, toasted bread, raisins, berries, toffee. Medium body, pearl carbonation, finish is bitter-sweet. There are more complex dubbels, but this is quite ok, simple and drinkable.

Donker roodbruin van l l Europa, crmekleurige schuimkraag met grote bellen, veel koolzuur zichtbaar. Aroma: Donkere fruit, Zoetig, karamel, honing, mouten. Smaak: Licht metalig, donkere geroosterde mouten, karamel, bruine suiker, siroop, iets chocolade, licht kruidig en een lichte bitter. Voornamelijk erg zoet. Body is licht, beetje waterig, veel koolzuur en de afdronk is zoet en plakkerig.
